My kids watch Netflix at lot as well.

Thing is, at $15 a month I will just pay it to keep the kids happy regardless of whether there happens to be any new for me to watch at any given time.

A Sky subscription?....Not so much

According to my wife who was a primary teacher for 8 years and now secondary for 5, kids are overwhelmingly living in YouTube these days.  They just don't "get" TV.

My daughter spends her free time, where she is allowed screen time, on youtube. Occasionally she will watch Netflix for a movie or a series.

My Son mostly plays games and only watches the other stuff in support of those games or movies when the family watches etc?

If the new CEO gets Neon full HD and DD, I’ll be happy.

I think Sky holds back with their online offerings at moment so the don’t risk Canabising their box customers, plus it probably costs to set up, and they’re trying to run at minimum cost.

The box adds about $20 to the Sky sub going by what digital rental only is , yet it sounds like they’re going to come out with yet another box. Meanwhile Netflix etc has no box cost.
Some will need a box as not everyone has high speed internet, but don’t think they should charge everyone for a box.

I don't think so. Sky has added OD as a free optional extra. IMHO while they build an acceptable SVOD only solution. When they release the SVOD puck and SVOD app only next year, they will cannibalise satellite and thats what they want. They wont care if I pay money for satellite or the same money for SVOD. Over time as SVOD grows and satellite reduces they will look at the tipping point to cancel satellite, or make it user pays. Thats a good while off.

I realistically dont expect the SVOD to be much if any cheaper, apart from no MySky rental and I do NOT expect a rental for a puck.

The on demand optional extra is utter rubbish though.

The Sky Link won’t stay connected to internet, have to reset Sky box just about every time that go to use it, low picture and sound quality on downloads, so It’s not suitable for use imho.

If they try to make non Satelite users pay Satellite costs then they don’t have a hope with completing services that don’t have these costs. Only way to hold customers is then to have a monolpoly on high demanded content -more live then non live, as for non live people can always wait for it to appear on another service.

I am not having those issues with the service, it's possibly an issue at your end?

There is a large number of customers who will continue with satelitte as their internet will not stand up to streaming services.

There are threads on here about the Sky Link problem.

I tried it on Spark and now with 2Degrees and it won’t even stay up with the fritz box.

Every device is working fine with DHCP except Sky. With Sky link it won’t let you assign manually an IP address, only lets you do it over Ethernet, or which one Sky box is to far away for.

The picture is SD and not DD so not suitable compared with other OD services.

Sky link?  Sky Go, or Sky On Demand? And via the MySkyHJDi or via another device?. I didnt think you can use Sky OD outside on the MySky

Using MySky, the Sky Link is a box that plugs into the MySky box.
This useless device is provided by Sky as it’s their answer to providing wireless to the older MySky Boxes, The newer ones have it built in, weather they have same problem don’t know.

Like I pay HD ticket for example with Sky Movies, to watch HD only way is to watch a recording,
Which limits me to the MySky recorded on, and takes up space on drive so not as much choice as OD,
Other services OD is HD, and outside NZ get DD sound, why isn’t Sky doing that now when there box service is a lot more expensive, yeah the movies more current and bigger range then Netflix.

They give Neon users better picture quality then the OD MySky, but no DD through Neon either.
It’s like it is just a half pie attempt so they can say they’re keeping up with tech.

I follow you now, the wireless adapter. I believe that Sky OD is not true OD, in that it records to the HDD and you watch off the HDD, basically fancy and better buffering. So any dodgy wifi if that was the case, should not matter. Ill test OD tonight

Ive always maintained that SkyGo, Neon and OD are Sky's entry into that tech, for when the day comes to use it hardcore. They all had issues, they all seem to work ok, so not too hard to tidy them up for more widespread use. As it is, its a cost to Sky for no return, so little point in going bigtime money wise into what will be a future path

Gotta ask - why not Lightbox (as its free for Spark subscribers)?  Or TVNZ (ad-funded)?  Shame that Heiehei is not castable.  Kids usually find something that they can watch within the "viewing universe" and are usually less discernible than adults.

I have Lightbox with my Spark mobile account and I seldom watch it. Have watched two Spark movies and a very few series episodes andI watched Men at Work series about three years ago  and thats it. If it was not free I would not bother with it.

I have Lightbox with my Spark mobile account and have never watched it.
Even though it's free I can't be bothered with it.

Dont you wish you could unbundle it and save yourself $10/mth.  At least with Unplan you can do that with Lightbox and broadband.
