...trust me when I tell you, you need to ensure buttons are present on the remote if you want increased uptake. A good portion of your customer base will find this enough of an adjustment that you don't want to add any artificial barriers to its adoption.

I couldn't agree more.

Being unable to simply press 100 or whatever it is for the favourite news channel and then potentially 1 for the latest in Coro St would be a deal-killer for many.

Agreed!

I know it's tempting to try all new approaches... but a LARGE part of the user base would never want a major remote control change.

I'd really just like the app available on my own shield tVs, Sony TVs etc. without issues and it to offer a very similar function as the VTV option (cloud recording, recordings accessible by any attached device) except I'd be willing to pay an monthly/annual charge for the freeview only options with guide etc; not much more than about $30 a year given that I can get a Silicon Dust Homerun unit that will integrate with Live Channels (Android TV native TV viewer) with full guide and recording for that amount... Sure TVHeadend/Kodi is cheaper but I'd need to wire in a new aerial for HD channels and then get a DVB-T2 IP tuner... I'd rather get rid of Kodi if I can as I only use the TV portion of it.

I wonder if they could even do a multibox option for cheaper if they ip locked the account so it can't be shared.

CGNAT would not work well with that.

ah yes true, forgot about that... I've got static ips so don't have to worry about it.

NZ Herald article about the new sky box here:

https://www.nzherald.co.nz/business/news/article.cfm?c_id=3&objectid=12363887

Giggling at the statement about App fatigue.... Must be mostly boomers filling out the survey. They really need to survey the Netflix generation...

My views (except when I am looking out their windows) are not those of my employer.

I think they’re only surveying existing Sky customers. I’m guessing they’ll mainly be us older folk. Though I’m all happy for applics if they work well like Netflix.

I'm just in to my 40s and I hate all the app switching to watch stuff... just disjointed and stops me enjoying stuff as I have to remember whats on where and when... I much prefer lineal broadcasting to be honest... I also hate binge watching so like my programs spread out which when watching with someone who loves to binge makes it really hard... I struggle to watch two 40 minute episodes before I have to wander off!

When.... Sounds like a linear term.

I think of different applics as different channels, with linear you have to know which channel to watch and have resources like TV guide magazines to aggregate them. With applics have things like https://www.justwatch.com/, and sure they’ll get better ways with time.

If I search on my TV it brings up YouTube content and Netflix content, I’m  sure they will add more providers in coming years to auto search.

c3rn: As per market research survey.

You do realise that you are breaking your legal agreement with the survey company when you publicly post confidential details like this? It possibly shouldn't even be accepted as a post on a law-abiding forum either.

You are right, it’s a link that looks like it’s the terms and conditions to win $100, but covers more then that.

I'm not a member so I personally haven't broke any rules.

"You will not forward any emails or survey links you receive to any third party unless invited to do so by us at the time the email or link is sent to you"

Besides, an email wasn't "forwarded" so I doubt it could be claimed that the term has been broken - technically.  Also, those T&Cs are hardly an NDA. As soon as a company sends concepts like this to the public on mass, it's bound to get out.

I can't recall what this particular survey said or was from, but I do lots of surveys from various companies and some of them specifically have a message at the start that you are agreeing not to disclose information. In other cases it is in the rules of the survey company itself to not disclose any information. The same occurs when you participate in things like live focus groups and product testing, but there you literally put your signature on a piece of paper instead of just clicking on an "I agree" button.

Well like I said, I didn't participate in any survey or focus group and I didn't agree to any T&Cs.

Also the thing you have to remember is that the result of leaking things like this will be nothing. Companies run these things assuming they will be leaked.
