kiwifidget: It must be summer as my Sky reception now routinely goes AWOL during the afternoon and early evening (atmospheric conditions, it seems too much sky is a problem for Sky). It did this all last summer too.
Can you use the internet connection to watch "live" Sky for when the dish goes out?

It sounds like you have got one of the 100's of faulty LNB from a few years back (They were the duel LNB's).  They leak and fill with water, as they get hot with the sun in the afternoon you get the "Atmospheric Conditions" sign.  Once the LNB has cooled down at night normal service is resumed.  You need to ring Sky and get it changed and your problem will go away.

An LNB that my grandmother got installed when she first got SKY in 2016 died and fried all the ports back in October, so these LNBs are not the best quality in my opinion, not too sure how this new one would last. Do they still supply the Sharp ones?

Sharp are the standard, unless someone has supplied a crappy lnb or she has had one installed privately and its a shocker OR remembering LNBs are able to fail at any time if a component fails... you know the list goes on. But sharp are the standard.

All 5 types sky use currently.

Looks like grandma is a bit of a time traveler as well! Perhaps she was looking into the future to see how the series ended!

Is it OK to quote yourself?
I rang Sky today about the ongoing reception issues. The young man seemed very knowledgeable about dodgy LNB's.
He got me to go into Installer setup, and then we changed a number from 10.75 to 10.74 and the reception is much more stable at the moment.
If goes awry again apparently then they will replace the LNB.

It should be replaced as it as drifted off of frequency and needs replacing.

My update worked fine. Only trouble is now if I use the Ch buttons up or down for more than four channels I loose reception. Sigh.

A simple power off at the wall fixes it and for some reason it always goes back to channel Four, which I don't watch. Quite odd.

Got a tech booked in for Tuesday to try and sort it. It doesn't seem to be an issue if I use the channel numbers, just the + - so hopefully it will be an easy fix. Hopefully.

Not working for me, nothing happens.
My box is a Sky HDI.

Is there any video to look at on the topic.
Might be a lot better :)

Jase2985: any hints to get the timing right?

I found it wasn't really the second reboot that you had to wait for.

For me the following worked

1. Turn My Sky HDi on -- blue power light should be present
2. Press 'select' and 'back' until it turns off
3. Wait for it to start, power light is a purple colour
4. Perform the "Power", "up" arrow, "down" arrow, and then "Power" sequence straight away

It worked a charm for me.

Good luck.

Does this work for sky plus too?

Boxes default to last viewed channel if left for 10 min.
Probably lnb failure or dect

is there any reason why sky haven't told us we can force it, if they haven't then why not, is it not recommended perhaps.

Thanks wingbat. The tech guy rang the day before he was due to come up and said he would just swap out the box but we would obviously lose all of our stored programs. I told him the box was still working OK other than that so we would leave it for now. Everything else works ok but we do struggle with the planner, colour and font. Must be getting old. 🤓
