Positive signs they are finally getting to considering giving consumers more choice over the way they consume content. My biggest thing is that they give me access to HD Sport in high quality, whereever I am, within the price of what I pay them for my box and channel subscriptions.

IE if I subscribe to sport via satelitte, I want to be able to consume that on my phone, tablet, or Android TV box, in high definition high refresh rates in at least as good quality as I would watch from the box.

Saw that. I can see them making changes like that, but I cant see them cutting back a lot of revenue. I cant see a "great Ive halved my bill and only miss out on one program I watch" More like it will be I'll miss out of some programs I enjoy, but even then I only save a few bucks.

Hard to blame them though, content costs.

I think Sky deserves credit for this. I also think they should have done it much sooner, but I suppose that was the old guard. They have probably lost a lot of goodwill by remaining stuck in the past for so long, and I know they have lost custom from viewers like us who discovered other alternatives and moved on.

If you don't mind a bit of DIY this can be achieved with the current offering.

Nice. I can do without Starter and the $15 recording cost. If they partner with Chorus what about those of us on Enable and other LFC's? Methinks that those that dont go for BB bundles may not fare that well cost saving wise, Im locked into Spark for BB and Sport, but it still looks like there will be something worthwhile

I feel they are settling into a lower price but also lower cost business, a smaller Sky, and that will likely involve being more prudent on what they pay for sport. They can't afford the huge sports rights costs anymore. Interesting times.

The removal of the ‘recorder fee’ is a good start. It points to remaining relevant in a streaming world. A Skygo app for AppleTV etc AND access to ALL the channels I pay for via satellite on Skygo would be good. It may remove the dread of watching a heavy rain shower approaching from the West at the same time as a Rugby Test is about to start. I know I can cast to the ATV, but not as simple for the non-tech members of the family as replicating a ‘Netflix Experience’.

Moving into broadband could actually be a somewhat smart move for Sky, you would be able to get all services on the one invoice (like when Telecom used to resell Sky, back in the day).

I guess that’s the end of free recording for those of us that paid $600. It said in article that mysky recording could be free with various proposed packages which means if don’t buy one of those packages will be paying for it in price charged.

It could make things more expensive for ones in that boat, depending on content interests.
When they make their final decisions public, I’ll consider my options. Looks like nothing to lose by handing decoder back, and if I change my mind to get it at a later date. Where at moment if hand back, can’t get the free recording later.

That's a big assumption. Right now, recording capability is a $15 fee. It is for you as well, except your one off payment replaced the monthly fee, and that will surely continue to be the case.

The recording fee has always been a con that Sky use to get back some profit from the consumer. Its not like its using space in the cloud like Vodafones..

It should be enabled on all decoders at no cost. It costs SKY NOTHING to enable the function

Also it may have slipped under the radar, All the sky sports package is available on its own on Vodafone tv for about $40? and no contract either

so taking it by that once purchased if unsubscribe cannot get it back as a stand alone.

‘And maybe if already have start up + on VodafoneTV may not be able to either.

It’s showing as available on my one, and I had SkyTV on Vodafone when they did free movies with Startup, don’t have any paid services on it at moment.

But the requirement is somewhat different in the detail. I've bolded the relevant line. It indicates that the offer is available to VodafoneTV customers who are not currently using SkyTV so i don't have to be new to SkyTV.

Important things to know

Get Sky Sport Only on Vodafone for $39.99 per month when you subscribe to Sky Sport Only on Vodafone via the VodafoneTV Portal at www.VTV.nz before 20 October 2020.
Offer only available to Standalone Vodafone TV customers who do not currently have a Sky subscription.
Unless cancelled earlier, Sky Sport Only on Vodafone will be on your account until 31 July 2021, at which point the Sky sport Only on Vodafone subscription will be removed from your VodafoneTV account.
If your VodafoneTV is bundled and billed to your Vodafone Broadband account or migrated from Sky Re-Seller you cannot add Sky Sport Only on Vodafone to your VodafoneTV.
