bendud: Crikey! That’s actually potentially useful. Thanks.

What you need to be aware of is that Sky has to make a profit. So if they protect that, it is NO issue. Same as your employer. Yes, Sky Pod is useful as you say. it works for them, and it works for you so all sorted

If you are not watching at home you should be able to take it elsewhere and watch, if you are paying a monthly Subscription !!

But I think the streaming version of Sky is different than the Satellite version with the set top box

Is anyone thinking about getting both of the new devices?

Yes I will get both.

We have one account across two homes we live between each week. One is better back with the dish and the other with internet. Luckily we still have the dishes. We had six boxes which were keeping 15 year old tvs in service AND a family member who likes SKy News, Fox and CNN and sports and willing to may 5 x multi room.

Now I will get some smart tv's where younger people watch and just need free to air and streaming and a choice of the boxes for the older family member who still wants Sky. Ironically I do not even watch TV!

At this stage we will be moving from VTV to the Dongle.
Seems to be fine for our usage and no real advantage for the box considering how we use VTV. eg No need to record if we can watch back 3 days and the ability to constantly replay certain kids programmes on the kids channels is a blessing

Biggest concerns are:

- Monthly Cost increase - We went from MySky to VTV as it was an instant drop of the $10 a month HD fee and the $10-$15 a month MySky fee for essentially the same service

- Sport streaming platform - Hoping this is the same as what VTV was using vs SkyGo, as all my mates using SkyGo seem to have issues with that platform

- Ability to chop and change subscription monthly - Another advantage of VTV was the ability to stop paying for sport in the months when nothing was on, or add it back on right before the first games all from the website, rather than having to try and call someone to get it removed or added when needed

Lost my Chromecast 4k a month or so ago too, so this coming out will be timely and ideal for the Summer holidays too.

I would be happy with the dongle but SWMBO wants to be able to record. Looks like we will end up with a Dish and an extra $15 a month. It appears SKY are doing away with the Dish in the UK so why are they keeping it here.

I wouldn't rely on steaming as a permeant connection to viewing Sky content

I would rather keep using the satellite dish.
