Ironically, just commenting on quality, this is on a par with Prime, or maybe even better (assuming 720p stutter free and able to buffer sufficiently etc)
So really it's better than nothing.

For me personally I'd like to be able to buy satellite HD on this type of charging, eg per day, per week, per season pass etc.
Whilst I expect I've got enough VDSL speed to handle this easily, satellite inherently doesn't suffer from the overloading issues that internet streaming can.
Add to that better than 720 and I'd opt for that for sure.

Will see how this pans out...

Indeed. And even if I did have Sky Sports (gave it up years ago, due to the cost), it is highly doubtful I'd have the HD ticket as well.

Me too, and I told Sky as much. They said they'd pass the feedback on, but I wouldn't hold my breath. Also, Fan Pass is still attractive to me, as it'll allow me to buy passes to ABs games once we've finally ditched our Sky sub entirely.

I'd envisage you'd buy a decoder (HD capable) and it wouldn't do anything unless you activated the subscription. Assume the setup to mimic the PPV setup of Sky now?
Maybe the decoder is free, maybe you supply your own, I don't know as this is just speculating.

Or they up their streaming offering to 1080P

With 4k TV's taking off, this isn't as far fetched as it once was, given you can stream 4k on youtube now etc.
It's not here yet obviously, but 1080p streaming isn't as mental an idea as it has been in the past.
Or give us this via satellite, I'm not picky, anything that ditches the rip off that is the sky base package you need before you can get access to the sports, and that stupid/rude HD ticket in todays world...

2) We don't have a Freeview aerial wired down to our lounge yet.

Pretty sure I've solved no. 1 now. Most of our TV watching is now via Netflix, Sky, HBO or Lightbox. We still require FTA for some local content though (such as the news).

Once no. 2 has been solved, we can drop Sky like a hot potato.

It's not a cost issue, its a "find the time to ring the sparky and remind him he still needs to come round to do the job" issue :-)

Currently trying to stream the Tasman v Waikato game, awful quality, buffering ,very much struggling here. iPad app running and air playing across to Apple TV. Broadband is working fine on everything else

I've always been a huge skeptic of Sky's online video solutions to date - but I'm going to give them some credit here (so far, based on offpeak viewing)

I started up the game as well and it went straight to 720P (in about 2 seconds) and has stayed there. It's smooth, no stutters, AV is synced, no pauses, no buffering. The actual picture quality is not great. I think it's probably 720p technically, but I'm 100% sure there could be some better video processing applied before or after encoding.

Totally watchable right now. Would even be ok on my big projector if there was a beer or 2 involved!

But I'll reserve judgement until after the match tomorrow night - If it's going to break, it will be then.

Traffic looks like it's coming off my local Akamai server as well.

I'm pretty sure you can AirPlay the news to an AppleTV. I think I've done it by mistake once....

Ok, so I may have jumped the gun, when I turned my wifi off and ran my iPad through 3G coverage the picture on FanPass was clear,crisp and stable. Looked good.

But when I turned my wifi back on , unstable ,pixelated etc. not sure what's going on as we normally stream high quality Netflix without the issues I encountered tonight on FanPass.

I can't afford to watch my fav sports on 3G coverage though.

Anyone else's thoughts?

What DNS are you using? ISP-provided or dns4me etc?
