Presume so seems to running without any issues now.
I can't check till tonight but looking at the Play Store I see the "Neon NZ" and "Neon NZ - Android TV" apps haven't been updated since 10 May and 2 March 2023 respectively. Certainly hope something has happened.
Neon says is it is 6.4.4.
Just watched a show on Neon on a SmartVu Android box with a family member who usually puts on subtitles when they are available. The app itself appears to not have been updated since March, but I noticed a huge improvement, and not only in the menu responsiveness. Until now, subtitles have been unusable - on a constant cycle of starting out a couple of seconds behind the audio, and drifting to around 4 or 5 seconds behind, then skipping some dialogue to catch up and be only a couple of seconds behind once more, and so on. For the show we just watched, the subtitles stayed in time with audio and no dialogue was lost.
I don't know what has happened on mine then but it is all of a sudden completely usable with no slowdowns whatever.
If no app update, maybe something has been fixed on the server side. Or maybe there has been an Android TV update - though I don't recall getting a ShieldTV update message.
It was obviously a Google problem all along.

At least now they won't have to rewrite the app from the ground up. How much business they may have lost because of this fault not of their own which continued for about 9 months.

Hmmmm.
9 months waiting for Google to fix something when all other apps seem to work fine?
Call me old and cynical......
It must have been a quirk with the Neon App and google that the others apps didn't have.

... So Neon wasn’t lying when they said it was an issue on Google’s end… crazy.
I disagree with those conclusions, as that is not the only (or even the most probable) explanation.
Despite the improvement apparently not requiring a new version of the client app, I think it was more likely a Neon problem - just one that could be fixed with changes in the server code, or changes to app configuration fetched from the server. Either of these could produce a major performance boost without a software change to the client. I've seen both happen before.
My guess is a server side update. Normally the Shield tells you when it has an update ready, and that hasn't happened in quite a while.
App on our Mi Box S is significantly more responsive but if critical still marginally laggy compared with all other streaming apps we use. Still same version of app quoted which I saw every time I went into Android TV settings to force stop it and purge cache after each use.
Another thought as no other steaming app that I know of had these issues was if the app didn't leverage Google APIs and wrote their own making ports to Google and Apple easier. If so could explain it if Google tweak Android which causes knock on issues for Neon but nobody else? Suspicious the app itself hasn't been updated since before it started or after.
