Yes, it does - here is the relative section in the FAQ:
Can I purchase sports?
You can purchase live pay-per-view programmes such as big rugby games or a netball game. You don’t need to have bought a channel pack to access sport content. Prices will be announced later.

Are you thinking that Telstra Australia might look at bringing their TBox (different from the crap .nz one) to New Zealand and go head to head with sky with that product?

Is the Australian one good enough either?

TiVo would be perfect for this, after all it is used for payTV in the States. It sounds like they will be selling a whole different box - why?

If it is only SD, then the product is already out of date. People want HD, and SD on an 50 inch tv looks poor. With a freeview box you get HD, so people would be better to buy a freeview box if they mainly watch freeview channels. I had thought that TV3/media works may withhold the EPG from this new device, like sky did with prime on the tivo. But it looks like they will give it to them. I hope sky follow this good karma from mediaworks, and now give their prime epg to tivo.

It's not only SD, they said in the release that it is HD (where available), that means CHs 1,2,3 only at the moment.

I want to know if it is adabtable to a PVR. I suppose it wont be, because if it was, I would dump MySky and get one of these and that is cutting off their nose to spit their face.

You could use a Series 1 Tivo to control the Igloo box and record from it. That would give you single tuner PVR functionality.

IGLOO even lets you play your family movies, holiday snaps and favourite tunes, right there on your telly. Plus with Live Pause, IGLOO will be reuniting husbands across New Zealand with the dishes in no time.

So - basic media player and record ability (should support that) - I am sure I saw wifi (it would need that - hope thats built in and not an extra).

At $25 per month I might think about it over the winter - my parents might like it too. Probably dont want it every month...

Obviously pay per view movies on demand needs the internet connection. Hope it doesnt need it for anything else though. That would be somewhat annoying. (people who dont have internet nearby or Wifi).

Hope they get agreements with the ISPs about data charges not counting...

I reckon they could be on to something...

I personally think they have done it knowing they will lose customers, they have done it to keep other competition out.

My take on what they're playing at: in a word, Jetstar. Partly they're running out of punters willing to pay full whack and partly they want to suck more of the remaining oxygen out of the market to reduce its attractiveness to potential new entrants - all the while trying to avoid dilution of the Sky brand. They're gambling that they'll gain more Igloo revenue than they lose in Sky downgrades.

New ventures by established players always reek of compromise and conflicting interests.

I wonder if Netflix's commentary re NZ broadband nearly killed this venture...

Yeah, I've done a lot more reading since posting that reply and I think I agree with you summarisation.

In fact, the more I read the less I think it will dilute the Sky brand. I think if anything it will give people a taste of what Sky could be like and you'll have more people using igloo as a stepping stone to the full product.

As for new entrants into this market, I think it will certainly make it less attractive... for now. With bandwidth getting greater (although still lagging behind other countries) and bigger data caps or even unlimited plans, the opportunity is there for providers to start utilising the DVB-IP protocol in the future without having to outlay a massive amount of capital. Think Telecom vs 2talk.

After my recent failed experiment with T-Box and following the TVNZ woeful attempt at TiVo I will not be participating in this.

I would rather see an option to pay for the channels you want to see, i.e. pay something like $3-$5 a month each for Discovery (if they put it on there) and UKTV. The rest don't really interest me.

Hmm, perhaps there is potential for a cut-down Igloo service for people who don't want the full set of Igloo channels. Take a subset of about a fifth or a quarter of the Igloo channels and charge half the price for them.

LOL - The service hasn't even been released yet and you guys are trying to cut down the already cut down service!!!
