joker97: When the front wing falls off you are left with the nose

The high nose can mount the rear end of the front car and fly

The low nose will not mount the rear end, rather it will make clean contact and not fly

Bags not getting skewered by a Lotus or probed by a Caterham this year, their noses look deadly

I, for one, am quite enjoying the sound of the 1.6 turbos this year. I'd love to be there this year to hear them live.

No one wants to admit it, but the dominance of Red Bull has hurt the sport, much like the Schumacher era with Ferrari did. Last year had some good racing, just for 4-2 spots.

I started watching F1 as an 8-year old boy in 1989. I fell in love with Ayrton Senna's driving and his red/white McLaren and supported him ever since. Together with my brother we've been fanatic F1 fans and visited a few GP's (Germany, Belgium) our bedrooms were plastered with F1 posters, we had loads of F1 models, games, anything F1.
The years were Schumacher became dominant were initially refreshing as a new face took the stage, but eventually the repetitiveness and lack of competition drove us way from the sport. There was a brief stint of a "free for all" after Schumacher left the stage but then the dominant pattern re-emerged with Vettel's Red Bull.

I strongly believe that the flows of money & sponsoring involved have destroyed this sport, together with Bernie Ecclestone's attempts to artificially restrict a sport that should be about building the fastest car possible. The introduction of V6 is yet again a vast step backwards. Not to mention the F1 coverage and the way that Ecclestone is trying to to make this sport a "premium sport" that should not be accessible for the average civilian.
In the 80's and 90's F1 was 100% free to receive for anybody in Europe through Eurosport. This changed when Ecclestone decided to take massive payments for broadcasting it which then brought the commercial channels in. Most Europeans were still able to watch F1 for free on their local broadcasters (BBC UK, RTL in Germany, Netherlands, etc.). Now nearly every race is behind Sky and you need to pay some ridiculous amount to watch it. Utter non-sense.

Despite having been a huge fan of F1 during the 90's I'm proud to say I haven't watched a single race in 3 years and won't be watching one any time soon until the sport changes back to what it's supposed to be about: racing.

I used to nod off watching the Schumacher era, predictable. I have found since then its been much better, and while I always have followed RBR as I like Webber, I found that the other racing behind RBR was often good. Glad they ended traction control.

There is a lot of talent this year as there has been in recent times, and the new regs are a bit of a leveller, my only disappointment for 2014 is the mpg issue. The reduced downforce, vastly increased torque, and the extra driver brain effort to manage more in car settings will make this more of a factor of favouring the better drivers. Thats a good thing. I just hope that the Championship does not revolve around the end of season DNF count due to unreliability

Interesting comment during the coverage. In Bahrain testing, a journo said to Jensen that when he was passed around the outside by RBR, you must have been on an out or in lap? Jensen said, no, I was running full, their car is quick. Heres hoping

I do think we'll see the RBRs do worse than their qualifying positions show if it is a dry race. Williams would also fair better in the dry too from what I understand... I'm looking forward to seeing some top position battles, but I think that if Hamilton hooks the start and the tyres are not a problem he will walk away with it.

Yep, I cant see Mercedes not running 1-2 based on FP. 1 second faster, the next 10 were quite close. Hamilton and Rosberg will be an all out fight, thats worth a watch in itself. I am quietly confident that RBR are closer in the dry than the rest. If they can finish. They always have cooling issues, lost KERS frequently last two years, so finishing is an issue this time round.

Not many have mastered the art of a full "power on" start - let alone a packed field of 22 cars.

Yep, and rookies in top 10 may not help. I will be p1ssed if there is a turn one crash that robs the race of the usual suspects

Whats the weather forecast?

The difference with engines this time is less horses (max speed) but wayyyy more low down torque (how fast you get to the top speed ie acceleration)

Plus no traction control means a lot of oversteer (aka tendency to drift)

To be honest i think they should have made it 1.6L v8 turbo. Every luxury car is a v8 turbo .... Here's my dream that my rs6 will fall from the sky

The extra torque, no traction control etc will hopefully separate the average drivers from the good ones. It been pretty boring watching some rookie step into an awesome car and suddenly become the next big thing in F1. Hopefully quality drivers like Button will be back up the top!

*Edit* Just saw the qualifying results, looks like I'm going to be disappointed this year again... D Ricardo...

Having said that, F1 is all about the car technology/engineering, the drivers while what we support due to the human factor is not the major showcase, or at least isn't supposed to be.

What I didn't realise until this week was how much of the profits go back into the top teams, the bottom teams get almost none of the profits. And then the F1 owners (CVC) take 50% of total profits for themselves.
