Hi there,

I currently have one HDTV in my living room, and one HDTV in my lounge. I have the MySky+ decoder in the lounge with an HDMI cable connecting to the HDTV in the room (Providing 720p/1080i picture). However, my other HDTV, in the living room is stuck with having very bad Sky reception (My house has 3 rooms wired for Sky), that I ultimately want to improve to an HD standard.

I have come to an option of having Multi-Room for $25 extra a month. However Multi-Room uses the non-MySky decoders (correct me if I am wrong without HDMI inputs?) and therefore wouldn't be able to get 720p/1080i picture? Also, if I were to get Multi-Room - Would I be able to access the recorded programs from the MySky+ on my TV with the other decoder?

If I were to go ahead with the Multi-Room option, would purchasing an HD Access Ticket allow 1080p viewing on both TVs or just one?

I have explored other options as to achieve HD picture in my other room but have been put off because of the prices and fiddly-ness of them. If you can shed some light on these alternate options please do so.

Can you run an HDMI cable from the Sky box into your other room? If so a HDMI splitter is all you need. I have one here splitting my Sky to 4 different rooms via HDMI.

Unless I misunderstood your question.

If you want HD on Distinct Deocders (ie, can watch two different Sky channels in two locations at the same time), you will need Multiroom ($25) plus another MySky ($15). You will not need the HD ticket, as it comes free with multiroom.

You cannot access recordings off a MySky from anywhere but that MySky.

Yep, it does. I have multiroom (one MySky, one standard) and we have HD ticket.

Note that even if you do not have HD ticket, 1,2 and 3 are in HD anyway on MySky HDi/+. The HD ticket gets you Movies and Sport in HD.

True. I was wondering about that, in cast the card of the multiroom (a standard sky decoder) happened to fall into a nearby Vu+ Duo for instance...

We've had MySky HDi multiroom for years and the HD ticket always been free for both STB's.

I've got two myskys. Have HD ticket and pay nothing for it.

Don't pay mysky rent fee, paid $600 up front for it.

When you put movies or sport on they only charge you once and get it on both decoders, why would HD ticket be different.

Maybe I will just run an HDMI cable through the roof-space to the living room, would suit what I want to achieve and would be a one off cost. Can anyone show me a good HDMI splitter?

If you don't need to simultaneously watch different channels in different rooms, then I would say that a splitter is the way to go.

You can get something flash that runs over cat5e/cat6 using baluns etc which allows the MySky remote to work in all the rooms. Alternatively, if the runs are short enough, you can just run HDMI and add a wireless remote extender(s) if necessary, which would likely be cheaper.

If you are going to the trouble of setting all that up, consider a matrix splitter. 4x2 splitters are fairly cheap (sub $200 at Jaycar), and 4x4s can be obtained if more than 2 rooms is a must, although they cost more. With a matrix splitter you can also plug in other devices (blu-ray player, Tivo or whatever) and also view these in the different rooms.

Nothing has changed and you are mistaken. You only ever pay for 1 HD Ticket and that is waived if you have multiroom.

Yes it does, but be aware that if you have the splitter going to a TV and to a HT amp then I was unable to get multichannel over HDMI working to the amp at all, it would only output stereo as that is what the TV was able to do. Adding an optical cable sorted that out well enough however.

It should, and in fact would be pointless if it didn't. I have got the 4x2 from Jaycar, and the guy in the shop confirmed it would work this way when I was purchasing - although I haven't actually hooked it up and tested it yet. It's one of the parts accumulating for when I finally get around to my HTPC build and reconfiguration of my AV setup.
