Hi guys,

we don't have a multiroom setup, however I do have a Dreambox in the other room, which I use to receive channels on the D1, and C1. We did have multiroom installed sometime last year, and we have since had it removed, but they allowed us to keep the splitter.

However, I would like to set the dreambox up, so that it has an active satellite connection and gets all the channels without having to disconnect our HDI unit, which I constantly have to do.

I have researched this on another forum, and they said that they convinced Sky to upgrade their LNB unit to a quad one or something like that, and they could get both satellites, and frequencies with different polarizations, so they could watch channels on different satellites at the same time.

My question, is how do I ask Sky if they can replace our LNB unit? Our current one (Sharp 10750mhz) still works fine, however I think that a quad output on would suit our needs better.

How do I ask Sky to do such a thing?

Unless your current LNB fails to work with your HDi or other piece of Sky kit, there's no way Sky are going to replace it. Last I heard, Sky have discontinued the use of the twin RG6 coax, which means they also no longer install quad output LNBs. They were doing that for a while after the old Optus satellite failed, just as a backup, but I guess it has been discontinued to cut costs.

I replaced my own LNB with one purchased from the Freeview Shop. They have a Quad-output unit for $100:

Not really a huge amount is it?

Disappointed that Sky discontinued that type of LNB.

I could afford the $99 for a quad LNB. However that's not really the issue.

I use the dreambox for the Optus service on the C1 with the dreambox as well as Sky on the Mysky. So I would need something dual throat that is in alignment with the C1, and D1. So I don't think that would do.

Oh, sorry I missed the Dual-throat bit. I just checked on Freeview Shop's website and they seem to have discontinued the Dual-throat LNB they had a while back. I can't remember whether it was a Sharp unit they were selling, but these suffer from LO drift problems as they get older, which was the reason I had to replace mine.

FVS offer a D1/D2 bracket, but that's not going to help because it's C1 you want on 156 E rather than D2 on 152 E.

No doubt one of the other sat gurus will be along soon to offer suggestions.

Nope, they still use quad LNBs, in fact they have a 11300MHz version now too (generally for use with interfering RF equipment - Wifi, corldless phones etc)

OK, good to know.

What about the dual (siamese) RG6 cable? Our local installer told me they had stopped using it.

excuse my ignorance but wouldn't it be cheaper to get a new dish, LNB and run new cables, also wouldn't you get a better result as then you could dedicate the dish to the satellite you want to pick up.

I only ask as I have a HTPC with satellite input so I split my Sky signal where it is in the house and couldn't pick up anything, I didn't know about setting it up and just assumed that it all would come thru the same cable.

In the end I just use my indoor HD arial and use the terrestrial signal to get HD content.

you can of course flick the LNB over to C1 by going to channel 999 on your MySKY decoder
