Well.....the sky installer popped around to put up a dish for me and unfortunately stated it couldnt be done due to the fact its a steel framed house.

They dont carry stock of any hardware for attaching the mast to any thing other then timber. I find this fairly incredible seeing the ZOG brand has been on the market for years and there would be 100's if not 1000's of houses in the market. Im sure a few of them have sky......

Anyone else struck the issue and resolve it?

I guess you could have a builder install a timber beam where the dish needs to go?

Yes, thats what I suggested too :)
I guess I mean that Im after any 'standard' install options. Theres always a way around issues, but due to the number of ZOG frames on the market, I though there would be a more standard procedure.

Im still waiting to hear from Sky techs if that is the case - just because my installer hasnt struck the issue, doesnt mean others havent

From memory you cannot attach anything to a wall or possibly any other structural piece of a steel framed house without voiding warranty. i.e a wall mounting bracket for a TV.
I phoned and left a message with a major housing company who specialise in steel framed houses, asking questions re this and wifi coverage but never recieved a reply.
Sorry it does not help your question much, hopefully someone more knowledgeable than me can help us here.

What about installing a dish on the roof? Surely the roofing material is nailed to wooden purlins or is it screwed to steel?
Only other solution I can think of is a substantial steel pole in a concrete pad. If not too tall should work fine.

Probably not that many homes though use that particular brand though. Surely it has timber purlins on the roof?

ZOG is the framing brand - its used widely by Golden homes, so no wood at all.

It is a practice to strategically place wood in the wall if you want to mount something heavy like a flat screen. On a roof, something light weight like UHF isnt a problem, but more stresses on a dish I guess....

We checked with tech, you need 4x4 in roof. (dont start car jokes)

Steel framed houses are fine and may be slightly cheaper AFAIK?

How hard is it to get the damn bracket so you can install yourself?! LOL get the installer to come and then pay him for the bracket.

Cost would likely be the reason why they would use steel framing over timber. I don't think there are really any advantages of steel over timber. I can only sell disadvantages myself.

Cool. If you could let us know the outcome of this it would be great.
There are a lot of steel framed buildings out there now and I have not seen many answers to questions re brackets and mounting points.

The builder popped around to install the bracket - I let him decide on the best method.
He was happy enough using tec screws and fixing it to the steel roof runners which also anchor through the main roof beams. He didnt think that sky should have much of an issue adapting with a bit of training.
