Wanting to record the Rolling stones Concert on PPV, already booked and everything.

Just wondering if the MySky HDI box has Macrovision or anything of that matter on those channels.

My understanding is that they Macrovision everything, even the FTA channels.

If you're using an HDi box though, be aware that the box doesn't output HD over component (unless this has changed recently, and I'm pretty sure it hasn't).

What kit will you be using to capture, and what output will you be capturing off?

If it's just the composite output, then the simplest solution is to use a capture product like the Hauppauge HD PVR that isn't affected by Macrovision. Alternately, you can get a fairly video stabiliser that will clean up the signal - with the added bonus that it suppresses "out of range" signals - i.e., Macrovision. I got the Dr Video product from Jaycar a few years ago to transfer my VHS collection to DVD and it worked fine - but I don't see it on their website any more.

If you want to grab the HD signal off the HDMI port, this can also be done - but things get significantly more expensive and complicated.

Is that in general or just on arena? Because I have a second TV on the component output (displaying same content as HDMI output) and it seems like HD to me..

I think you'll find anything PPV will be copy protected. I tried recording PPV movies a while back and the Recorder said it couldn'r because the signal had copy protection. All the usual channels including sport and movies were no problem. No doubt MySky HDi will record but then you can't get the recordings off the box onto a PC.

I really wanted to watch that concert yesterday too, but upon reading the FAQs I didn't book it.
It said I could record the event, but that I had 72 hours to watch it, and once I had started to watch I only had 24 hours to view it. I won't get time till the weekend to see it.

I hope they release on BD.

Actually, you can.

I haven't done it - I have most of the necessary kit but don't actually have an HDi unit. Getting the recordings off in SD is pretty easy - just like transferring a macrovisioned VHS. HD can be done as well, but is harder. I know a couple of people who have managed, but it's expensive and a bit fiddly to set up and use the necessary hardware. Whatever you do, you have to transfer in real time.

Yeah. I should have added "easily". I thought it could be done with difficulty.
Like my Panasonic Blu Ray Recorder. I can easily get SD (Prime and Sky) onto the PC but HD is proving difficult.

Just grab a dreambox or vuduo and use that to digitally dump the dvb trsnsport stream to hdd
