Just noticed Sky have a new HD sport channel coming up, Originally named Sky Sport 4, but they are showing extended coverage of the Melbourne F1 from 2.30 tomorrow,

Common sense is not as common as you think.

Just noticed it as well. Info mentions in car camera video feed.
Anyone have anymore info on what, where from and who it is from?
Presumably the video is sourced from FOM who control all of the F1 video footage but could be supplied b a 3rd party?

Just looked on Sky's website and found this. It's only available to people with both an HD ticket and a Sport subscription.

Seriously, I would say that people who watch the low bitrate mpeg2 sd transmissions are the one's being screwed. Even the sport channels look vulgar.

Yup. They will charge you to subscribe/watch crappy low rate SD transmission and then charge again to watch (what should be standard for a paid subscription service) HD transmission....yet people still line up to be fleeced. Sealed

It's been said before - it's a vaue proposistion.
You decide to pay for it or not. (or you just have a moan whenever sky is mentioned)
I don't mind paying extra to have my sports in HD.

And as for HD should be standard for paid subscription service - what operators do that?
They all have their HD prices.

Umm TV 1 - 3 on freeview?

Officially, are their any other 'operators' in NZ apart from the sky monopoly?

At some stage surely HD will have to be considered a "normal" part of the service. Eventually it will be like charging extra for widescreen... or colour! In fact it's a wonder that Sky didn't come up with a "Widescreen ticket".

It sounds like it's a very poor cousin of the real Sky offering in the UK where you can select what incar feed to have... It sounds like it's just a static channel and they'll cycle through the drivers from their end.

I cancelled my HD ticket and Sky sports subscription last year after Sky insisted that taking the BBC audio and leaving dead air during qualifying at times was an acceptable offering. Add to that the fact they never even played the pre-shows for quali and Race and the offering in NZ is just a joke.

I survived with online options I'm afraid. I want to give Sky NZ my money, but not for a substantially sub-par offering.

Cheers - N
