Hi all,

im going to have to install our aerial on a new house build. Just wondering if there are any tricks to pointing the aerial at the correct location? eg sugarloaf in chch. Also we are having sky installed, and as part of this getting mysky hdi we want to run the signal back around the house aswell, I have 4 rg6 cables in the wall to allow all of this, the cables all terminate in one location so I assume sky will just connect to one of them? my question is do I have to have a normal tv aerial in place?

Lastly the 4 cables are not well labelled, any tricks to test which end connects to the related end point? was thinking of using a network cable tester I have, and just twist on of the wires around the copper and see if I get a positive test on that cable end. would that work?

if you are in CHCH then just use your eyes and point the aerial at sugarloaf. You can see it from just about everywhere.

Ok well wasn't sure if was as simple as that, but if so then great :).

Next question is on SKY RF modulators, any issues with these? do they impact freeview at all?

And if I have existing RG6 in the wall, ( sky approved cable ) with fconnectors terminating in the roof space, will sky just use one of them, I don't want them trying to run their own cables as they don't run down internal walls, and this is a new house.

If you are sending sky out on via an RF modulator round your place, best to keep well away from the DTT muxes (for both Freeview and Igloo). Sugarloaf's channels are 30, 32, 34 & 36. I'd suggest you go as high as you can around 48 or as low as possible on the sky supplied modulator say Ch 26. This means should any more DTT services will be added, you don't have to retune the RF modulator and your TVs to pick up the Sky channel

World TV mux is on 28. It would also be possible to use a DVB-T modulator on Sky's composite out delight.
