Hey all.

Start off by saying:
1) I know multi-room is for the same house, and this is stated in the ToC.
2) I know you can possibly get in trouble from sky for doing it
3) I know the account holder is liable for all costs.
4) I have searched the GZ forum for the same topics but cannot find one

That aside, I was wondering if it was possible to pay the $25 multiroom charge on a MySky HDi connected, and have the decoder at a completly different residence.

THis would be provided that,
a) A non-sky technician would come and install a dish that I would buy myself.
b) The multi-room decoder would be installed (connected) by sky in a room at the account holders residence, NOT where I intend to put it.

Is this possible?

I know you used to be able to do this on the older ones, but does anyone know if it works on the HDi boxes?
Also, do HDi boxes have to constantly be connected to the phone line?

They dont need to be connected to a phone line unless you want to utilise PPV functions.

Wouldn't the new boxes have smarts to actually tell SKY their location? I would imagine for fraud and theft reasons

And I think it costs more than $25 for an HDi (I think it would be $40 - $25 multiroom and $15 HDi).

Other than that, lots of people do it (for baches usually).

Still, if someone wants SKY TV at the family beach house, are they required to have 2 sky accounts with 2 subscriptions?

If they do, then that's the stupidest thing I have ever seen.

If not, and multi room is ok in this instance, then its no different than what Im trying to do.

So that would require a non sky technician to install the dish?

As in the ToC it stated they will only work at the HOME residence..

I don't see how.
They're only a Satellite receiver. The can't transmit any info. The telephone connection (if used) is only for interactivity and couldn't transmit location.

I've done this with my parents, I still pay the bill here, it works well. Just note they won't install the box at the 2nd address, they'll need to install it at your current address.

Just remember that if something goes wrong with any of the boxes, they will _all_ have to go back to the main house for the sky tech to come out and investigate the problem.

A friend was caught out by this when their parents called in a faulty mysky and the mother who was not wise with how things worked told the sky tech that they only had one box and the other was at their daughters place and blah blah blah and then sky contacted them to discuss the situation.

The billing of the 2nd location is added to the master account, i.e. the "beach house" does not get a bill the master house does.
Multi room is just that "multi room" in the same house, not at a 2nd location.
