a friend just got their old sky box replaced (it died) and the new one is the same as the old - two SCART and no HDMI. I can't believe Sky still use composite as the default these days.

Do you have to upgrade to the My Sky HDi package to get a decent STB?

I'm trying to understand why you wouldn't want the PVR functionality. It's fifteen bucks a month and means you watch what you want, when you want, with no ads. To me, this more than doubles the value of the sky package, for about 33% extra cost

I know lots of people who have Sky solely for watching live sport, and have no interest in recording etc, so the cost increase is not justifiable or necessary. Likewise, with Multiroom, Sky seem uninterested in allowing us to even pay extra to have an HDi decoder for the second box, and thus we're stuck with a standard stb there. Ugh.

This. I could not conceive of watching regular broadcast TV in New Zealand without a PVR. It makes the frequent ad breaks almost bearable.

Absolutely. I use a hard-drive DVD recorder for the same reason. TV is essentially unwatchable viewed live - sitting through the endless screaming ads waiting for the next brief "programme break"

Huh? We've had multiroom MySky HDi for years - and you don't pay for the HD ticket for either STB.
