Our sky decoder is just the basic one easily over 10 yrs old. I'm guessing if we got the $10 HD ticket it would not be capable of giving us an HD quality picture ? At this point in time I refuse to pay for mysky as it would ( I presume ) cost an extra $25 a month including HD ticket. Actually decoder is one of the early ones I think as we got sky in 98 and its the same one. As an aside when we got sky the picture was a brilliant improvement from the old aerial, now I'm sure its way worse.

Yes HD ticket is only available with the mysky hdi or plus, which are $15 and $20 per respectively, this gives you HD on 1,2,3 everything else is sd, unless you get the HD ticket $10 month, which gives you the ability to have movies and sports in HD also, if you subscribe to those channels

I thought you got the FTA channels in HD regardless of the HD ticket with a MySky..

The older (and not so older) basic Sky boxes are not HD capable so you have to get MySky to get an HD capable box.
Likewise I refuse to pay an extra $25 per month for something of little use to me as we already get 1, 2, 3 etc in HD via UHF.
I'd rather spend my money on something like an Ultraplus or Openbox STB that is DVB-S2 HD and will accept a Sky card. At least that way you get a box that you actually own. Can't even justify the expense for that at the moment though.
Currently I just record anything I want to record from Sky (silver Pace box) on my Panasonic Recorder. As far as watching films in HD and surround sound, it's easy enough these days to find them free to view online (and stream to a TV) so why pay Sky for the privelege.

We get the my sky box free for having sky charged through Vodafone, also the HD ticket free for having mutiroom

although multiroom itself costs $25, and your extra box is only a crummy standard box.

Explain what you mean by "open up the HD channels", are you saying you can view sky movies HD and sports HD without having the hd ticket?

clod: Ah well, thought that would be the case. Will just carry on as is then.

The HD box is a HUGE improvement on the old one - well worth the extra monthly fee.
(I have no links with Sky.)

Only if you subscribe to movies & sports - otherwise just 1,2,3
