It's the first time we've tried to set up the HDMI link - when the box was first installed more that two tears ago we were using an old CRT TV which didn't have an HDMI input, we've been operating this new one via one of the AVI sockets using the SARC cable provided. i'm not sure where the HDMI cable came from, but it's qbout 2m long so I'm assuming it's the one that came with the box.
I've established that both this cable, and a longer HDMI cable that I bought for my laptop (operating Win 8.1 64 bit) both pass a signal from my laptop to each of the HDMI sockets on the TV. however, when I use either cable to attach the Sky box to either of the HDMI ports on the TV, there is no signal so I have to revertback to the AVI connection.
The situation is the same when I try ll this with a smaller Panasonic TV - the laptop signal comes thru' on both TV HDMI ports, with either cable, but not the Sky box. I've tried various permutations in the Video settings section and HD Picture settings on the Sky box, including this proposed solution:
"Hi Shogg,
Can you check the HD resolution output to see what setting it is on? If it is on AUTO, please change this to 1080i - you may need to try 720p if it is already on 1080i. Here is how to change the setting:
•Press services, Options displays.
•Press right arrow to highlight Settings and press select. Picture displays.
•Press select Picture menu displays.
•Press down arrow to highlight HD Resolution Output.
•Press left or right arrow to change setting to Auto, 576, 720p or 1080i and press select.
•(OSM): “You are about to change the output resolution. If a blank screen appears, wait 10 seconds or press Back Up to return to Picture Settings” displays, Press select
•(OSM): “Output resolution changed. Continue to picture settings and then save” displays, Press select.
•Press green to save.
•Press sky to return to normal viewing.
Please let me know how you get on.
Thanks",
from this archived thread "http://helpforum.sky.com/t5/Sky-HD-Picture-Sound/Display-does-not-support-HDCP-Error/td-p/651768" And nothing works. I've phoned Sky support at least twice - the opertors have been very nice, but none of their suggestions have worked.
I've tried resetting the Sky box, including leaving the power turned off for at least an hour, but this hasn't fixed the problem.
Whilst using the AVI socket I was getting the message "Due to HDCP support not being detected from your TV this program is being used in Standard Definition" whenever I switched to an HD channel on the Sky box. The tv owner manual specifically says that he HDMI ports support HDCP. The last time I spoke to Sky support they said there would be a 50 dollar call out charge to look at the situation. It seems to me that either the HDMI output on the box is faulty (like i say we've never tried to sue it since having the box) or it is a problem specific to Panasonic TVs. However, I can't dredge up anything fro the internet to support the premise that it is a panasonic anomaly, and the retail outlet that sold me the TV (and he's been so thorough and helpful with other stuff we've bought from him in the past) is adament that if the laptop is accessing the HDMI ports via both cable on both Tvs then is is a Sky box problem. Any thought would be greatly appreciated, and aplogies for the length of this post!!
