Hi - I'm new here so bear with me......:smileywink: We've recently goy a Panasonoc TH-L32xM6Z (that's the New Zealand Model number) LED set and have been unable to establish a connection via the HDMI cable.

It's the first time we've tried to set up the HDMI link - when the box was first installed more that two tears ago we were using an old CRT TV which didn't have an HDMI input, we've been operating this new one via one of the AVI sockets using the SARC cable provided. i'm not sure where the HDMI cable came from, but it's qbout 2m long so I'm assuming it's the one that came with the box.
I've established that both this cable, and a longer HDMI cable that I bought for my laptop (operating Win 8.1 64 bit) both pass a signal from my laptop to each of the HDMI sockets on the TV. however, when I use either cable to attach the Sky box to either of the HDMI ports on the TV, there is no signal so I have to revertback to the AVI connection.

The situation is the same when I try ll this with a smaller Panasonic TV - the laptop signal comes thru' on both TV HDMI ports, with either cable, but not the Sky box.  I've tried various permutations in the Video settings section and HD Picture settings on the Sky box, including this proposed solution:
"Hi Shogg,

Can you check the HD resolution output to see what setting it is on? If it is on AUTO, please change this to 1080i - you may need to try 720p if it is already on 1080i. Here is how to change the setting:
•Press services, Options displays.
•Press right arrow to highlight Settings and press select. Picture displays.
•Press select Picture menu displays.
•Press down arrow to highlight HD Resolution Output.
•Press left or right arrow to change setting to Auto, 576, 720p or 1080i and press select.
•(OSM): “You are about to change the output resolution. If a blank screen appears, wait 10 seconds or press Back Up to return to Picture Settings” displays, Press select
•(OSM): “Output resolution changed. Continue to picture settings and then save” displays, Press select.
•Press green to save.
•Press sky to return to normal viewing.

Please let me know how you get on.

Thanks",
from this archived thread "http://helpforum.sky.com/t5/Sky-HD-Picture-Sound/Display-does-not-support-HDCP-Error/td-p/651768"  And nothing works.  I've phoned Sky support at least twice - the opertors have been very nice, but none of their suggestions have worked.
I've tried resetting the Sky box, including leaving the power turned off for at least an hour, but this hasn't fixed the problem.

Whilst using the AVI socket I was getting the message "Due to HDCP support not being detected from your TV this program is being used in Standard Definition" whenever I switched to an HD channel on the Sky box. The tv owner manual specifically says that he HDMI ports support HDCP.  The last time I spoke to Sky support they said there would be a 50 dollar call out charge to look at the situation.  It seems to me that either the HDMI output on the box is faulty (like i say we've never tried to sue it since having the box) or it is a problem specific to Panasonic TVs. However, I can't dredge up anything fro the internet to support the premise that it is a panasonic anomaly, and the retail outlet that sold me the TV (and he's been so thorough and helpful with other stuff we've bought from him in the past) is adament that if the laptop is accessing the HDMI ports via both cable on both Tvs then is is a Sky box problem.  Any thought would be greatly appreciated, and aplogies for the length of this post!!   :smileysad:

you have to tell the sky box to output via the hdmi output instead of the avi output.

have you done that?

No you don't, it outputs from both at the same time.

OP - Got another TV and/or HDMI cable you can try?

Thanks for the replies guys

@ joker 97 - I couldn't see how to do that

@illicit Yep - have tried both - see the bit just above the italicised writing. Neither TV's will accept HDMI outpit from the sky box. Both TVs accept HDMI from my laptop.

MySky boxes definitely sen botth HDMI and composite at the same time. This is what I have ours doing to get a signal to a bedroom TV.

OP, it sounds like your MySky is faulty.

Out mysky box HDMI output  stopped working a while back.

I was moving cables with the  devices on, and apparently hdmi us not as hot swappable as I thought.
Think I saw a little spark when moving the hdmi into sky box, then it would not work, but component carried on normally.

Just call them and get it replaced, but  it does mean you lose all of your recordings and series link.

Re- Hot swap - The last time I spoke to the Sky help desk, one of the things they got me to try was to take the HDMI cable out, turn it around, and put the ends into the ports they weren't in before. I asked if it was alright to do that with both the units still on - she replied, "Yeah, it shoulld be"..........

Re - loss of recordings - Yep, that's going to be a bummer - The drive is nearly full with a whole backlog of stuff. I've only just deleted a 4 hour program of "Highlights" from last year's Glastonbury rock festival !!

Thanks for the input guys - keep it coming.....

We at the Sky UK Help Forum have had a number of instances where 'hot-plugging' has caused HDMI chip failure on either the receiving tv, or in the Sky stb itself.  In this instance, it's possible the HDMI socket on the Sky stb was defective at installation ( was it supplied as new direct from Sky NZ? ), or has failed, resulting from a 'hotplugging' attempt in the two years that you have had the box.

Although 'hotplugging' is usually supported via Hot Plug Detect on one of the HDMI pins, it can occasionally fail, resulting in a spark which can fry the chip.  Best practice is to first power down source (Sky)and sink (tv) devices, then make the HDMI connection.

Additionally, and in respect of any HDCP issue, we recommend powering up devices at the end of the HDCP chain first.  In this case, the tv first, then the Sky stb.

In cases where the tv's are clearly OK ( by testing other HDMI devices ), the usual recommendation is to try a friend or neighbour's stb on your tv.  If this is not possible, a Service Visit to replace the stb is recommended.

Before you replace it - you could record off anything which you must keep via component or composite.

I used a HDPVR to capture the HD component output of my skybox to keep the footy games I had not seen when the sky box broke (luckily it was at xmas, so had the time)
If you can't get a hold of one of those, then just standard TV card etc through the composite output.

Hi the UK!!! I left there in 1990.

Anyway, no way of knowing whether the Mysky Box was new when it arrived since we've only just tried to use it. We upgraded from a bog standard basic Sky box, over two years ago and were still on a CRT set.The bloke that came to change them over had been here a couple of times before - the first thing tje muppet said was "Who set this up" (we had a DVD/VCR player in tandem with the box) - well he had, after phoning someone esle - pillock!! Less than impressive - I hope we don't get him when I ask them to come round!!

Hi,

Unfortunately, your HD Ready tv only has Composite In ( I think ), and the MySky HDi appears only to have Component Out ( as alternatives to HDMI on both), so you're a bit stuck TBH.  I think you're going to have to bite the bullet and get Sky round with a replacement box.

As I mentioned earlier, it's usual here in UK to try a friend or neighbour's stb on a suspect setup in order to eliminate the stb as the problem ( or not ).  Fortunately, with around 5 million Sky+HD stb's in use here,  that's not usually a problem.  Given your location in NZ, that may not be possible, I know.

When the Sky installer comes round, make sure that the HDMI connection from stb to tv is in place before powering anything on at the mains. Then get the stb set up.  Your HD Resolution Output can be set to 720p as that's what your HD Ready tv supports ( 1366x768 ), although you could try 1080i from the stb and let the tv scale down.  There may be a slight delay in doing this when you're switching from SD to HD channels.

Hope you get sorted OK.

ATB,

Ken

Thanks Ken and "Yes" to and Independent Scotland  !!

"twinned with Dunedin" - typical Scots - go to the other side of the world and choose totally the wrong end of the wrong island to live in!!

Then, of course there's Glasgow....Now there aren't too many days to go to the start of the GCG, or Glasgow Commonwealth Games. In British folk lore Glasgow has always had "a bit of a reputation". Back in 2005 a UN report ranked it as the most dangerous place in the "developed world" (see 2nd link). I wonder, then, if the Game's organisors are aware that in International medical circles there is a thing called the GCS, or Glasgow Coma Scale!! Funny that!

Better stop now, or the moderators will have us for getting off topic!!  smile
