I have Mysky HDI & went to Jaycar to get a AV Sender which included remote extender with the unit but was told none of the ones they sell will work with the new big remotes for HDI units & only would work for the older mysky decoders. I don't want to run cables & was hoping this would work to the bedroom which is 10-15m away through a couple of walls. Doesn't have to be HD quality going on to a 42" plasma in the bedroom.

Can anyone shed some light on what would work without cabling?

The AV sender would work , but the remote extender probably wont

I have a (seldom used) AV sender, and have also installed one for a relative to get TV from their satellite decoder to a small (19 inch) TV in their kitchen. Mainly so they can listen to the news while the cook.

AV senders do work. However, the picture quality isn't great (worse than VHS in my experience) and on a 42 inch screen the picture quality will be absolutely terrible.

I would advise you to reconsider cabling, and do it if it's feasible. It shouldn't cost too much, there are solutions that will relay the remote, and the picture quality should be vastly better. Particularly if you use an HDMI splitter and run the picture in HD. But even a composite picture over RCA of the quality you get from the two dollar shop will give a much better result than an AV sender.

The HDMI senders on 5GHz would be your best bet. The 2.4GHz digital sender from jaycar replaces staticy interferance with total dropouts when you start to use the wifi.

I checked with my cousin about mysky and extenders a while ago, and the solutuion was to buy a "replacement" remote which did work. I never tried it as the friend I was asking for gave up and got a second mysky box because they were having recording conflicts too often anyway.
