Hi guys

I have an igloo box at home, which I've linked up to a telly in our lounge.  There are two other tvs in the house, and I'd like to be able to watch the igloo box on all three... ideally through the Live TV function on the xbmc devices already connected to the three TVs (two of which are android based, one is openelec).

One option that jumps out at me is to use a slingbox or similar.  Does anyone know if it's possible to use a slingbox with an igloo?  Other options might be the Belkin @TV or the HDHomeRUn prime - so long as there are options to stream those to xbmc installs.  I appreciate that these solutions aren't multiroom capable, but to be honest that doesn't bother me.  Being able to change channel is a necessity of course, and being able to pause live tv using the built in igloo functionality would be a great bonus.

Anyone know enough about this stuff to offer advice?  Any and all pointers are greatly appreciated... I've tried and failed to googlefu the answer for myself!

Cheers!

Steve

Sorry, but recording from a tivo to multicast via IP seems like adding too many cooks in the kitchen.

You might be better off putting a tuner (usb) in a box and streaming (slingbox?) off that - especially if it has an HDHomeRun plugin/channel to transcode the 1080i to something else.  Rather than recording a video signal them streaming.  Then use the XBMC PVR functions or XBMC slingbox addon (if exists) to access/control the tuners.

If sending the direct digital stream to your XBMC devices, you'll need to make sure the XBMC devices are big enough to handle the 1080I (I not P - it's quite different) stream.  I've tried roku 3, apple tv 3 and raspberry pi - all which are 1080p capable - and none could play the 1080i stream at more than 4 FPS.

Thanks David - really appreciate your reply, though if anything I'm now more confused than ever.  I don't have a TiVo, and can't say I have any idea what multicast is...

My understanding of Slingbox is that you can attach it to your set top box and access tv from other devices via your LAN (or outside the confines of your home, if you're into that).  I'm trying to work out (a) if that will work for igloo and (b) whether or not a "working" version of that allows channel changing and use of the live tv pausing function packaged on the igloo itself.  A usb tuner's not much good to me as I want to be able to watch the channels I pay for on my igloo via the slingbox (or whatever alternative).  I don't own a PVR.

The main two xbmc receivers would be Matricom MX2 G-Box Midnight set top boxes.  The Slingbox software is apparently compatible, according to the google play store.

Ahh ok.  As with anything explanation and context is a wonderful thing.

Yeah I forget igloo does pay channels and read as tivo, hence the reasoning behind a usb/hdhomerun type tuner.

The slingbox looks like the simplest (never heard of that belkin device), and getting the hdhomerun prime I think would leave you with the problem of something having to control it.  Where the slingbox seems to be a self contained box for directing channel changing on the igloo, and recording the output.

But as to whether anyone has implemented that here (or via a regular sky box) it'd be interesting to see if you get any other replies.

Cool, thanks man.  I'm really keen to hear if anyone knows what I need to look for - there are loads of lofty promises on the slingbox site that they work with every satellite and set-top box, but without seeing it for myself I'm ever sceptical :D

Also can't really fathom how much I'm overreaching with the control-via-android-but-with-a-remote thing.  I guess that may well prove to be a case of just trying it out...
