Hi,

I'm hoping someone will be able to do me a small favour and check whether their mySKY will create series link for, for example, The Block.

I have a mySKY+ and 9 out of 10 programmes cannot generate a series link.
I have spoken to SKY, and have reset the device, which reloaded the EPG but the problem remains. It seems to me to be 'a problem with the EPG data, not my device, hopefully someone can prove me wrong :)

As an example, if I set the unit to record The Block tonight, and select series link, it does not book to record the episodes on Wednesday and Thursday. One News and 3 News also fail to generate a series link. Only occasionally will it display "searching for series link information" (it does for Shortland St, but then still fails to book any future episodes.)

Cheers,
Joseph

I don't have the + but my standard MySkyHDi creates a series link for The Block (puts the link symbol beside the recording) but I still had to manually put in Wednesday's and Thursday's. All would accept a series link. Hope this helps answer your question. I must admit I haven't tried to link programs that occur multi times a week before.

Thanks for doing that. Mine will put the green linked icon next to the program, but no future episodes show.
Does yours book a recording for next week?

Surely though for something like the News, it should be able to record each night with one Series Link?

Cheers,
Joseph

Sorry I deleted it after testing so don't know if it linked to next week (not a fan of reality shows).

I think it only books (i.e. shows a future recording in the planner for) one programme at a time in a series, so you won't get all episodes in a daily program showing even if they are in the EPG. The mechanism for making the next booking isn't as straight forward as you'd think either. You'd think it would just run its fingers through the transmitted EPG data and pull out the linked programmes but instead there is a separate data carousel for series links. All the links cycle around and with some extra transmission at key points (e.g. just after the previous episode playout). The result is you may not see your next link turn up immediately.

Thanks manaia, I think you may have hit the nail on the head.
I will wait and see what happens tonight, this morning the Planner has the 2pm The Block repeat showing, but not the new episode tonight. I find this very frustrating as I won't be home from work in time for the new episode, but as far as I can see this morning, it's not going to be recorded.

The TiVo Season Pass was so much better. Record The Block. New episodes only. Keep 5 episodes.

Cheers,
Joseph

Sky use a numerical code in the carousel which is the series link ID.  My experience of this code is sometimes, it is not transmitted with the EPG for some programs.  Appears to be completely random and will most likely be an error in uploading the EPG from Sky or the FTA providers.

Thanks tdgeek.

I spent about 20 mins on the phone this morning. Definitely some confusion about which episodes should show in the Planner. I series linked the evening episode but only the afternoon repeat shows. So far.
To be continued.

I will check on mine tonight, I have series linked The Block. It recorded last nights, will check that it is recording tonights. Hopefully it does not record the repeats, that would be annoying nd fill up the HDD too fast.
I have also series linked MKR NZ, and it recorded Sunday's and Last nights fine.

Manaia is correct about the shows showing in the planner, it will only show the next one due to record.
