Sky just emailed to say they are adding HD to two more movie channels. Classic and Action. Effective from September 1.

Did they buy more transponder capacity, or which channels took a bitrate cut?

Probably the bandwith savings from making channels  1440x1080i instead of 1920x1080i   :)  Crafty.....

On a semi related note:

On the 8th of December 2014, SKY TV will no longer offer the following channels:

  • Mind Games
  • Playing TV
  • Weather Channel

Looks like they're freeing up some more spectrum. Hopefully they will be replaced by useful channels :D

I know of a few people that used the weather channel. The games? not so much. I remember when the weather channel and games were implemented, i believe it was early 2001, it was a terrible experience then and im not sure if it got any better.

Weather Channel used to be the goto service for weather in my household.

Up until i moved out (im not around to tell if this is still the case), it was still used on a almost daily basis, due to the fact that it was "faster than the internet" - ild personally argue against that, was one of the slowest weather services i have used...

Yeah, the weather channel was good. don't know if it gets used much, maybe offer it via the ethernet port in MySky boxes?

ild love to see a use for the ethernet for services like that.

Ild expect, it would be far more efficient.

That's what i thought it was designed for - haven't seen it used at all for anything yet?

It does seem that Sky are up to something stopping unused channels...

Some questions - how many channels of SD would have to be stopped to make space for an HD channel?  I wonder if its 3?  Please let it not be a compressed HD channel!

And please let it not be more paying sports channels - but as others have said something useful - like Discovery or Prime...

I don't want no sugar in it - thank you very much
