Does MySky HDi involve any internet usage (streaming on demand etc.)? I remember it had an ethernet port on it, but last time I checked it was redundant.

Sky is reportedly working on a service that would use the ethernet port for on demand services. Which would involve internet usage. Your box today won't do anything over the net, as far as I know.

They already have Sky on demand that works without the internet

Oh, you mean the one where you have to wait for the next showing of a movie you selected? Thats not what I would define as on demand..
