I had a couple of hours to kill in Auckland Koru Club and was looking forward to kicking back and watching a bit of tv on my ipad.

To my disappointment Lightbox returned an error message saying that it was only available in New Zealand and wouldn't load. Odd - as I was in New Zealand??

I presume you don't know the external ip address (ie www.whatismyip.com) where you where coming from.

Getting a list of NZ IP Addresses can be pretty hit and miss and maybe the one which airnz coming from isn't in their "NZ" list of NZ networks.

No - I didn't bother to check.

It's been a while since I checked but I'm pretty sure the Koru connections in NZ are via FX networks.

Hi,

There's an issue with the IPs being used, as they show up as Australian (which is where they were procured). We've pointed the service provider at the geoblocking service to submit a request for the IP registration to be changed. We have to abide by the results of the geoblocking service as part of our content deals, so there's not a whole lot we can do from our side.

Lightbox - we are online TV.

Ah...

I was in Koru Auckland yesterday and had the same experience - I decided it was AirNZ being cheap and managing their bandwidth by deciding to be off shore.

So is that fixable, and who should I bug - I'm in Koru Auckland frequently and Lightbox is a great option for a dead hour instead of eating continually...

Lightbox already said theyve contacted the geoblocking company to look into it... not much else can be done except go over a VPN to a NZ IP :)

Well yes - but thinking about it I've emailed AirNZ as they are the ISP's customer and I'm theirs. I guess ISP may or may not choose to listen to a third party (lightbox)

Move to New Zealand's best fibre broadband service (affiliate link). Note that to use Quic Broadband you must be comfortable with configuring your own router.

I find eating continually to be one of the great joys of Koru membership.

A combination of the two pursuits can be quite a nice way to while away an hour or two...
