On the surface, 5 devices sounds like a reasonable restriction, until you use it in the real world. I have a couple of PCs that I have installed windows 10 on. Both of these have used lightbox , so for a single PC, it is being detected as two devices, so two PCs counts as 4 devices if they are dual booting. So I have had a hard drive fail, and I have done a clean install, and lightbox won't work on the new install, as it sees the new installs as a new device. I also can't delete the the devices from lightbox, because it only allows one device per month to be deleted. The 5 device restriction isn't really the problem, it is the 30 days restriction of only being able to delete one device per month. Even apples system allows you to clear all the devices if you hit the maximum. This is really a major problem, as I am now stuck in the postion where I can only view lightbox on an ipad, as none of the other installs on my PC exist, and I can't delete these no existent devices. Also in  the lightbox system, it is very difficult to identify the PC, as all it shows is 'PC Computer', so there is no way to know which one you are deleting anyway. Anyone know of any other workarounds?  Lightboxes helpcentre doesn't help, as it doesn't discuss this problem.

Well, this is new. They were clearing all devices if you phoned and asked them to, especially in cases such as yours. Their restrictions have been discussed many times. I don't have this issue with my music streaming service and I can't see why Lightbox's provider has to be so tight with their reductions. At least let us wipe any/all devices whenever we want as long as only 3 or 4 max are connected at once.

Edit: Correct spelling glitches.

i just dont like way it detects a device. I have only connected via 1 computer since i singed up for my 12months free, and then only used one browser, yet its saying i have 2 devices?

i believe each time the broswer is updated it add another device even though it is the same device.

Rather crude and frankly cr@p way of doing it if you ask me

Get Netflix, problem solved.

When lightbox first opened a thread on geekzone I queried them about this and asked why they couldn't just automatically deregister a device when the device stops streaming the content, similar to how Netflix does it is something.

I basically got told that the thread wasn't there to compare them against competitors. That was the point at which I said no thank you and stayed with my Netflix/Hulu/Crunchyroll subscriptions.

you can't phone them, but yes a simple email and they will reset the device limit for you.

Whilst it is a minor annoyance, I don't think it's really that big deal for the majority of people.

The two TVs in my house have a PS3 and a PS4 connected respectively. That's two devices.
I also have 3 ipads in the house (mine, wifes, kids)  that's 5 altogether.

That's all we need.  Whilst it would be nice to be able to register all my devices  simultaneously (we also have 2 laptops and gaming rig between us), for us it's really not that big a deal.   And I'd say I am far more 'connected' than most households/

I don't need my those other devices registered because I will always prefer watching via PS3 or 4 for big screen watching, or ipad for small screen watching.

The most 'annoying' thing that needed fixing was the ability to resume playback from where you left off within an episode, and they have that now.  Looking forward to seeing what's next :)

Awesome, didn't know you could get them to clear devices.. for some reason my win8.1 tablet has taken 4 of the 5 device slots, not sure why lightbox keeps registering it as a new device everytime i use it but has left us with only being able to access lightbox through the ipad

It's not really per device. It seems to be per app or browser, and each login to the device (eg windows login) will also create it's own set of 'devices'. So for three user accounts on a Windows PC, each accessing Lightbox from Chrome under their own Windows login, will create three 'devices' in the list. And if 2 of those users the tried using IE, then that'd be five 'devices' all up.

And yeah, if Chrome did an update, maybe Lightbox thinks it's a new device?

Not being able to identify 'devices' in their list doesn't help either.

I can see it as an issue for some people and thats fair enough. I use it via a PS3, but Ive run out of HT connections, so sound is only via TV, I find it easier to use the iPad, either solely or via ATV. More convenient than PS3 but it does tie up the iPad. I thought that was fixed, to allow iPad use when streaming?

How? I was mucking around, playing the air crash doc. When I interrupted (by going to home screen on the iPad), the LB app selected the next ep.

I did email them, and they have removed some of the duplicate devices. Their sytem maybe fine for consumer items which play it, as conditions don't change on that device, it is relatively fixed. However for things like computers, it is a PITA. I also just had my ipad replaced by apple, and restored all my data to the new one, but lightbox detected it as a new ipad, and I had to remove the old ipad, which was 1 device deletion for that month. It would be far easier if they had the ability to do a device purge like apple. It is things like this that turn me off these types of services. A less techincal person would probably just bin the service if they couldn't connect to it due to the limit.

BigHammer: It's not really per device.

My issue relates to a single user and chrome browser, so there is something silently happening that makes lightbox think it is a new device each time

If I could remove devices on demand, or better still the oldest use date was used to automatically pop that one out of the list it would be an acceptable compromise. but to have to contact support to get them removed etc is absurd.

Netflix, amazon and hulu dont have this limitation. I dont think I have seen it with HBO go but I have only used that a couple of times because the person whose details I was borrowing decided to cut the cord.

Only reason I was borrowing them was because it wont work without a US cable sub. When they remove that bizzare requirement I will pay them.
