Looks like they are pumping in another $15m, upping total annual investment to $35m.

That hopefully should get them some decent content.

if they become a true hulu type service, where they have tv shows the same day (a few hours behind is fine) as shown in USA, I'll sign up. Better Call Saul is a great first step, but I won't sign up just for a 10 episode season. Get more shows like
- Banshee (Anthony Starr :))
- Arrow
- Flash
- Supernatural
- Bates Motel maybe
- American Horror (more than just the first 2 seasons)
- Game of thrones :D

A bigger enough range of shows that are airing in the US to make the $15 worth it. Netflix wont be showing whats airing now, they'll air them 6 months later at the earliest, so it wont be directly competing with them on that.

I rather pay $15 a month and watch something streaming, than watch for free on broadcast tv. sure you can PVR everything, theres tv on demand etc, but I rather pay and avoid ads, and watch when I want.

Game of thrones would be fantastic but I imagine sky is holding that contract with all its might

Would be nice to see some sporting events such as motogp now that sommit sports is no more...

And better Android device support? No reason why you shouldn't have an Android app that I can use on my HTC One.

I think there is space in the Australian & New Zealand market for a Hulu Plus style service. Perhaps TVNZ, Mediaworks & Spark (Lightbox) should be pooling resources in this space, rather than individually "doing it alone".

But Lightbox & Neon up against the firepower of Netflix? Game over once the next round of serious bidding takes place.

But Netflix could be a different type of service. Netflix never has new releases and doesn't offer currently airing tv episodes (sure they make some shows themselves). But hulu, vudu, netflix all live together quite well in the US.

If lightbox gets in with current tv shows, then it definitely wont be game over. And enough of people seem to be wanting sports...

Had a look on lightbox' site recently, quite impressive lineup of shows, but not enough to drag me away from netflix us, yet.

Device support, both our Sony BD players have the netflix app built in, plus PS3 and x360 have it also. From that list only PS3 has lightbox, am not going to be transporting a device between TVs just to watch TV.

Movies, these are a big omission from a VOD service but I understand sky, tvnz, tv3 and even quickflix have rights to anything sort of worthwhile watching tied up. Time for studios to ditch exclusive agreements (Tui billboard?)

i think the NZ market will support 2 players max in the VOD market, I'd put my money in lightbox and netflix, if lightbox was to stick to tv and netflix concentrated on movies, the two could live quite harmoniously.

I think the Aussies will get sick of feeding the bottomless pit that is Quikflix and they will be broke before Xmas 2016. Even now after 6-7 years of operation they are still burning millions of dollars each year, the time will come when investors cut their losses
Neon will quietly slip away into the night, their offerings, pricing and quality is laughable.

Keep up the good work lightbox, you seem to be making the right moves

How much do you think netflix are willng to invest in nz content rights? To so confidently state 'game over' you must have some view.

In any case, I think far more likely people will be happy to subscribe to multiple services, so it's not necessarily netflix vs lightbox. It's more netflix+lightbox vs sky

Good on Lightbox for Chromecsat support.
A proper all device Android app would be great, but my guess is that Samsung has a deal in place stopping that (same for SmartTVs).

AppleTV support would be great too.
