The last few days I have been noticing a lot of interference on Sky. Are others seeing this? Is it the weather or maybe something to do with our decoder or LNB?

By interference I take it you mean the picture breaking up and/or pops and clicks in the audio?

Summer and your lnbf has probably started to heat up and start drifting in frequency. Phone Sky and get them to come and fix it

Nothing with the sound, just some interference patterns across the screen. Not pixilation, more like analogue noise, as in a bad connection that keeps making and breaking. My vote would also be heating issues with the LNB, I just wondered what others think.

Hi, a failing LNB will cause data errors, so you would expect to see mpeg pixelisation, if you are seeing analog type tearing or line drop outs etc, then more likely an issue between the box and your TV

How is the sky box connected to your TV? If it's RF out then interference is common.

Sky box is an old Pace decoder. Signal is s-video out to a Panasonic DVR that upscales to 1080p. Picture quality is definitely not HD but is actually surprisingly good. Interference patterns only started in last few days, about the same as sunshine and high temperatures but could be coincidence. If this was an analogue TV I would say it is RF interference because that is what it looks like - noise lines across the picture.

Everyone who has said lnb so far, I agree with.

Heat and older lnb (dual) some generations fail in the heat then when they get cooler signal comes back. Get sky out.

But they don't cause interference as described Can you bypass the DVR , try composite or even RF to the Tv. What is the picture like from the DVR to the Tv with the Sky disconnected?
You need to try & eliminate items.

No way I would invite Sky out here with all the extra LNBs I have hanging on their dish. I'm hoping to dump Sky soon anyway. If the interference gets annoying enough I will just replace the LNB with the original one, which was still working when I removed it.

You need to try & eliminate items.

Good thinking. It looks like the source may be the DVR. I need to do more testing over time to be sure because the interference isn't constant.

Actually I was diagnosing a different problem a couple of years ago and I replaced the LNB with an extra new one I had while trying to pinpoint it. The LNB turned out not to be the problem but there was no reason to go to the trouble of putting it back so I just left it.

To test the heat angle, spray the hose (gently) at it for a bit to cool the box down.

Edit: Spray the LNB outside, not your decoder box inside...

lol. Thanks but it's starting to look like it is the DVR. I need some time to be sure because it comes and goes but I will focus on this first and then report my findings.
