Hi everyone,

I'm looking to distribute my Sky HD signal around the house and I'm looking for a decent digital modulator. I have searched the forums but can't seem to find any recent discussions around ones that are available in New Zealand. In fact I can't seem to find any available for sale in New Zealand so maybe I'm not looking in the right places.

I've been thinking of getting the Edision HDMI Modulator - Full HD Distribution over Coax from Amazon UK but I'm not sure if the DVB-T standard they use is compatible with what we have here. (sorry can't post links yet)

Any thoughts on the above? or any recommendations for locally sourced digital modulators?

MatchMaster do a product like this, it should be on their website. IIRC it was a bit over $1000.

I bought a 4Ch one in from Australia. Not HD but big difference on old analogue modulators!

Bought the ClearView SD4105 Quad Channel SD Digital Modulator from dpanda.com.au

The owner couldn't have been more helpful. Especially as there is no NZ agent for it.

Easy to setup. Use it for my 3 DVR's and Satellite Receiver.

Have you weighted up distributing a single channel via DVB-T vs simple HDMI splitters and distribution? If running cat6 is easy this is a far better solution.

There are lots of options for DVB-T modulators - but the main thing is you need to strip the HDCP first if you're relying on HDMI input.

I have. The house already has coax wiring done to all the locations I want and running new cables isn't really an option at this stage. I have a HDMI splitter that strips HDCP so that should be ok.

Most AV specialist or even electrical wholesalers will be able to get them. We got ours through Strawberry Sound.

You could look at usual sources such as eBay and Aliexpress where you'll find plenty of cheaper options if you want to import something.

If the coax runs are direct then look at a HDMI to 3GSDI solution, 1080p over a piece of coax, goes for ages distance wise and since it is one way, its free of HDCP out the other end.

I have some between house and shed on old RG6 that used to carry modulated RF, works fine. odd dropout but its 15m of lousy cable.

I'm new to this so have been focusing on retail stores like Jaycar/PB tech and searching Google for the product numbers. I'll have a look around the wholesalers thanks.

Do I need to look out for anything if I import them? Are all the DVB-T standards the same (i.e. will they work on NZ TVs)

That's an interesting option, didn't know something like that existed. Might not work for me as I want it distributed to a number of TVs rather than point to point but definitely opened my eyes to another possibility. Thanks.

We bought three of these to sort out my parent's house.

They run two sky decoders and a bluray player to four LCD TVs and a projector. The media cupboard is at one end of the house so the only solution was HD over coax as there is no network cables or HDMIs to the TVs.

They work perfectly, but if we were brave enough when originally purchasing we should have bought the 4 channel HD model rather than dipping our toes into the water by initially buying a cheaper single channel model.

Had to buy from net from USA but no different than buying from anywhere else with a website.

There's my 2 cents.
