Just got a brochure from Spark that says, because I have a no-cap broadband plan, I can have Lightbox for free.

I guess a lot of you got the offer, too.

My question: Is there ANY cost at all associated with this 'free' offer? Because if there is, I don't want it. My present arrangements are fine.

I'd ask Spark, but probably won't get a straight answer. Especially if there are any disadvantages :-)

The deal was announced a month ago and talked about in a few threads on here.

I'm not sure how you could have any catches - the deal is pretty clear.

Yep

Of course I fully expect that now it's free and has become a cost centre to spark its market life is limited, but why not take advantage while you can? doesn't cost anything, just hope there's some interesting content

The deal is 'free'.
However broadband use age is your responsibility. As you are on an unlimited plan, I would guess that it is of a 'who cares' concern.
My nephew tells me that he runs up 4 to 5 hundred gigs watching the goddammit noisy babble box per month and he works for them in Chch.

Thanks guys. I guess I've become a wee bit cynical in my old age. I mean, it wouldn't have surprised me to find that if I took the offer, I'd suddenly find out I needed some special hardware, like a set-top box or something else. There's very little for free that doesn't have some sort of attached 'gimme' these days.

But I'll take your collective advisement and go for it.

Cheers :-)

No gimme. For Spark, its added value, like free hotspots, Spotify, etc. Is there a cost? For you no, for Spark yes. If you go for Spark due to these added values, then everybody is a winner.

Hi @geekIT,

That’s right, as everyone has said, Lightbox is now included for all Spark Residential Broadband customers, whilst the Broadband plan is made available to you.

Drop us a note at help@lightbox.co.nz if you need help with anything.

Enjoy!

Heads-up: I took the offer but I don't think Lightbox is for me. As far as I can tell, all it's going to do is make available a small range of TV shows to stream to my computers. And if I want to put them up on my TV, I have to fiddle about with an HDMI link from computer to TV.

Nope, my current system is way more flexible and much more rewarding.

Thanks to all who responded.

Or get to grips with using a Chromecast and stream wirelessly from a phone or tablet (via your broadband connection) directly to your TV if it doesn't have the Lightbox app.

Yeah, but the material isn't worth the effort :-(
