Hi,

I'm currently a sky customer living in a rental but in about 3 months I will be moving into a new house that is being built for me. Whilst the builders have scaffolding up and the walls are exposed it makes sense to get Sky to come around and set me up with a new dish and cable.

Does anyone have any idea how to make this happen or is this in the too hard box?

Interested in your thoughts.

Regards,

Simon

Just install coax and ethernet and phone runs to each room. Sky will wire to existing cabling when they put the dish up.

I did 3x Coax and 3x Ethernet to the lounge TV points at my folks place. This allows for Freeview, Sat and a return to the central distribution point to share Sky around the house. Then every TV point has an Ethernet jack with it too.

THIS.

Get the people doing the work for you to put wires, connections and everything else required in the walls for you, tell them you want a dish and where it's going so they know (and don't make it hard for the installer), and you're done.

Make it so the dish (and ufb etc) guys are on your property for as little time as possible, and make it dead dead easy for them. $500 of extra cabling is nothing over 15 years of happy calm.

I wouldn't be putting phone runs in. You can do it over CAT5e/6 if required.

Our house was cabled with coax for the dish, but it was left coiled up in the roof space with no way to get it out when the sky installer was there. Therefore, make sure that you plan where you want the dish and leave the cable exposed so they can hook straight up to it.

If you can, and I know it may not be practical depending on your house design and neighborhood, I'd suggest mounting the dish to something other than your roof. You really don't want to develop a roof leak later. I didn't even let them attach it to the bargeboard (to avoid the possibility of damaging it) or the side of the house!

So being a new house (probably rockote) there is nowhere left then? You can't mount on rockkote (how ever you spell it) or butanol UNLESS the guys that install the product will warrant it.

My one is (and I install them) in roofs all the time with no issue. I use good quality sealant and its covered by an install warrantee. Any issues with the install? Call sky and they will sort it. If its skys fault get a qc to look at it and action would be taken from there.

In the years I have worked for sky I have had no issues with dishes I have installed.

**edit**

Sorry if that sounded grumpy it was not meant to.
