Hey Geekzoners, FYI:

Lightbox is about to undertake a system upgrade which will pave the way for some awesome new stuff in the future. It means that from 12am till around 8am on Thursday 24 November you wont be able to watch Lightbox.

Once we are done, if you are watching on a mobile device, you will need to be on iOS8 or Android 4.3 or above to get back to watching.

AFTER the upgrade (from Thursday 24 November):

  • Android phone or tablet viewers - you'll need to go to the app store and download the latest update and will need to be on Android 4.3 or above
  • Apple TV, iPhone or iPad viewers - you'll need to go to the app store and download the latest update and will need to be on iOS 8 or above

  • Samsung Smart TV viewers - you may need to update the app and login again

  • Other Smart TV, Playstation and Website viewers - you may need to login again
  • If you use profiles or parental controls - your default PIN is 0000
  • Just follow the prompts or check out our help page and if you get stuck, help is at hand via live chat or by emailing help@lightbox.co.nz

Thanks for your patience,
The Team at Lightbox

I'd be happy for less buffering and constant audio volume.

Good to know but, @GeorgefromLightbox, can you please let us know whether anything nice came with the changes?

Personally, I'm most interested in the 5.1 question - I need this to be a reality if I'm going to start paying for a Lightbox sub (my free six months I got when joining Bigpipe has run out or is just about to do so).

Cloud spending continues to surge globally, but most organisations haven’t made the changes necessary to maximise the value and cost-efficiency benefits of their cloud investments. Download the whitepaper From Overspend to Advantage now.

Just did the update for my Sony Bravia KD-55X8500D and my lightbox app has disappeared.
Was literally using it last night, ran the update this morning and now it's gone.

Anyone had this happen to them?
Are sony android TV's not supporting lightbox anymore?? :'(

@GeorgefromLightbox: "... awesome new stuff..." but you won't tell anyone what it is???

Sometimes I just sit and think. Other times I just sit.

Hi everyone,

The upgrade was a back-end replatforming. It paves the way for new features we have planned, as the new platform allows us to develop & deploy them easier. I can't divulge the extent of the new features just yet, as they're still being designed, tested etc.

To answer some questions though:

- @jonathan18 - Sorry, this update doesn't bring 5.1 sound. There is another thread about this, which I will update this week

- @silverlake - Android TV boxes such as the Yoka, M8s, etc are still not officially supported

- @KiwiSacha - we had a service interruption last night around 6pm, which did something odd to MY own personal Sony TV also; I restarted it and the app reappeared. I noted that the entire 'Featured apps' belt disappeared, actually...so I don't think what we've experienced is directly related to Lightbox. Let me know if you're still having trouble though

- @eracode - see above:)
