Hi. For approx 3 months, the tv/my sky/AV Reciever setup has been working fine.

A couple days ago, the HDMI cable between the tvv and Reciever broke. Replaced it and now I can't get MySky to show on the toTV. The MySky box is showing power and signal and the round light stops starts if I use the sky remote, so suspect the sky box is working, but the connection to the Reciever is not.

The Reciever also has a Chromecast plugged in, and that shows on the tv fine, although only with to sound and not through the speakers attached to the Reciever.

Any suggestions?

Questions...

1: How did you manage to break an HDMI cable?

2: What receiver do you have?

HDMI ports do carry a small amount of power, so hopefully it hasn't fried the HDMI board...

Try turning the amp off (unplug it from the wall) and let it sit for 10 minutes.

Then try swapping to another HDMI port on your amp.

If you know how, do a factory reset (some brands call it a micro processor reset).

There's also an outside chance that your new HDMI cable itself is faulty.

If the HDMI cable broke due to some trauma - eg being yanked - maybe that damaged one or both of the HDMI ports it's connected to.

Sometimes I just sit and think. Other times I just sit.

Try another HDMI cable and make sure it's v1.4 or later.

If possible I would run an HDMI or the HDMI cord your planning to use (if possible) to the tv directly to confirm if its the cord, tv or decoder.

If the cord has suffered a shock, the connector could be have shorted out (its a subtle failure) and the decoder (if its at fault) will still work on the old composite/component cables.

Any standard HDMI cord will work, you don't need to pay a heap.

If the decoder works direct to the tv, then thats ruling out the tv and the decoder and leaves the amp. If it fails to work on anything call sky, Yea it COULD cost you but to rule out the decoder as a point of failure could be a good start, or call sky last. as long as you have not been removing the HDMI cord with the amp / device on.
