Alright people, once this goes ahead (and assuming it will) what would we all expect to see?

New boxes?
New name?
New deals?
The ability of being able to choose channels?

Thoughts?

My picks for what we will likely see:

  • Several material price hikes for any Sky customers that aren't on the Vodafone network taking a new bundled offering.
  • Content bundles and exclusive sports offers, that are only accessible to those on the Vodafone network
  • Development resources being focused on improving the Vodafone STBs, while the MySky ones languish
  • Lots and lots of extra promos, incessantly extolling Vodafone packages and the new bundles, interrupting Sky programming
  • Increased lobbying to block UFB rollouts in areas that already have VF's cable
  • Efforts to cap on monthly data on the VF network (if the market lets them get away with it), accompanied by spurious technical reasons for with Sky content being exempt, like Verizon wireless is doing now with DirecTV
  • A big clamp down on torrenting etc, and this will now directly compete with VF's other core offering
  • Mysterious connectivity issues with Netflix and Lightbox

Why do you assume it will go ahead?

I assume it will go ahead so we can have lively discussions around what might happen, so if you want to treat it in a hypothetical sense for now? (sorry if this sounds angry its not meant to)

Not sure this deal will proceed.

Move to New Zealand's best fibre broadband service (affiliate link). Free setup code: R587125ERQ6VE. Note that to use Quic Broadband you must be comfortable with configuring your own router.

New anything as part of the merger...

now if vodafone were to bring in new things at the point of mergers, then they would not still have all their previous purchase still on different systems!

will be exactly the same, maybe a little vodafone sticker painted on the box?

What will happen is two of the worst companies coming together to provide an even worse service and a higher price

I don't know that it (the merger) will happen.

Sky, however, do have some pretty good lobbyists (friends in high places), so you never know.

If it does happen, Vodafone will make nice noises about good deals, but when they release those deals we'll all go 'meh'.
