Just wondering if anyone else has noticed this....
Last night when I opened up Lightbox on my Samsung TV app, I received a notification that I can now select the level of data usage while watching programs.
The options are high resolution at approx 4.5GB/hour, or standard resolution at approx 1GB/hour. I can toggle between the two settings at any time by pressing the green button on my tv remote.
When I was previously on ADSL, my Lightbox didn't seem to use much data, but when I switched to Spark fixed wireless on 4G, my Lightbox data usage skyrocketed, and I was very quickly gobbling up my 120GB data allowance. I guess there was a setting in the background for the app to use as much bandwidth as available depending on the connection type one has.
Ironically, I switched to an unlimited fibre plan a few weeks ago, so it's a moot point for me now, but I imagine the option to manually choose your bandwidth will benefit other Lightbox users on fixed data allowances.
I'll be interested to hear if this is just development with the Samsung smart tv app, or whether it's a blanket upgrade.
