We have Sky but I rarely watch it. I got curious about Sky Go and set up an account to view on-line but it wants me to 'link' it to the box. We still have the old Pace decoder. I don't want to risk upsetting those in the household who do watch Sky so can anyone tell me what linking the account does? Will this cause any issues with the box?

From what I recall, my Sky Go is setup to my login and PW.

By box, won't that mean what device? Hope this helps, I think "box" means which of your devices

How many devices can I watch SKY GO on?

You can watch SKY GO on one device at a time and register up to 3 devices to watch SKY GO on per account.

You can swap out/remove one of your registered devices once every 30 days by following the steps below:

  1.

    1. Sign In to SKY GO using your username (email address) and password
    2. From the 'Settings' menu on your device, select 'Manage Devices'. If you're on your PC/Mac, scroll down to the 'SKY GO APP' section of the My Account Home page and click on the 'MANAGE DEVICES' tab
    3. Any devices registered for SKY GO will now be listed

Nah they are referring to the decoder. Elsewhere they mention 'My Sky' but we still have the old decoder. I have set up an account as requested, but now if I want to view something they ask me to 'link' my account to the Sky box first. I just want to know if that changes anything for other viewers before I do it.

Ah. Might pay to call them, they are quite quick to answer. Maybe the link needs to be set manually of your Sky box doesnt have those smarts perhaps to phone home

You can have a "My Account" on the sky website without being a sky subscriber.  It is free and easy to register.

From my understanding, the "link" is to associate your login via the website (My Account) with your actual physical sky box / account.

Doing so should not affect your viewing to my knowledge, it just opens up extra options for online interaction.  Now the website knows who you are and which sky box is yours, it can show you more information, and let you manage things like the devices linked to your Sky account.

One of the sky apps lets you setup a recording on your mysky remotely . Cant remember if it was skygo. I'd link to the box, you can always unlink it later

The sad fact is that if you still have a legacy decoder Sky can't have any short term plans to upgrade to DVB-S2 H.264 on SD transponders (would double HD channel capacity over night). Given that I'll cancel at weekend.

@spyware: I know from your other posts that you really have a problem with Mpeg 2 quality, but not everyone feels the same way. We find it acceptable for our viewing requirements, especially as the channels we do watch are all crap quality anyway. With the documentary channels and even the Arts channel there is very little difference to see. If you don't watch sports or blockbuster films you hardly notice, especially if you aren't watching on a huge screen.

Linking the box, is actually linking the smart card number, so you will have to remove that once when people aren't watching.

It links the entitlements on the card to your online account so they know if you can view sports, movies, soho etc.

I finally bit the bullet and linked my account. It works, sort of. But it only works with Flash. HTML5 browsers just produce a message that Flash needs to be installed. As ever, Sky seems to be stuck in the dark ages.

I could live with that, but the media player Sky uses won't go full screen. All I get is a tiny window in the centre. If I switch to full screen, I just get the same tiny window on one side. I don't know what kind of media player Sky uses, since it provides no information or links, but I have also had this with other sites that use JW Player.

Does anyone know how to fix this for a Windows browser? I am not trying to use an app, just a desktop browser in another room.

Resolution is only 512x288 so wouldn't look nice full screen.

From your answer I gather it is only intended to work on mobile devices. I guess I just assumed it would also work on browsers. Anyway, I also tried it with my tablet and got to the point where it is loading the show. That circle has been spinning for about 10 minutes now. Don't know why I ever thought this might actually be usable for something.

Should be a Sky Go app for both iOS and Android, i.e., don't use a browser.

I'm trying but all I get on my tablet is Sky BS. The latest is that my device registration failed. Other than that just an endless spinning circle. At least on the browser I can get something.

It's working fine for me in Chrome in windows, but they must have updated their flash player  recently, or Chrome had an updated which meant I had to re-enable flash to make it work.

Full screen does what it says.

Doesn't work for me. Just the tiny window. Tried three Chrome browsers.
