So I have free Neon courtesy of VF.

Can I watch it on my Sony Bravia by putting an app on the TV or do I have to stream it from my phone (which seems a bit convoluted in these days of simple solutions)?

(The TV is a 2016 model running Android)

According to their website (Ways to watch) the App only works on Samsung TVs since 2013. Guess youll have to stream it to the TV somehow.

I can do that from an Android phone since the TV has Chromecast built in.

Is content still able to be in HD etc etc if you do that?

Seems mad that you can't just get the app on the TV in this day and age.

App development for devices, especially TVs and consoles, is time consuming unfortunately, hence why there isn't a native app for many manufacturers TVs yet.

The Google Cast functionality on the Sony Android TV's is not officially supported due to a playback issue with some content. Titles in HD are fine but some SD content doesn't play as well as they should at present. For the best experience, use a proper Chromecast 2 or Chromecast Ultra.

Hi, I've asked for this Topic to be unlocked as this still seems to be an issue in 2020.  I have a 2019 Bravia OLED TV and I'm unable to locate the Neon App via the Google Play Store.  I currently need to cast from my device to watch Neon on this TV.  I have Neon NZ support staff looking into this for me as they seem a little bewildered as to what is happening.  I'll feedback to this post as I get info.  I seem to also have issues finding TVNZ on Demand app as well.  Not operating a VPN either.

Neon, TVNZ ondemand & sparksport usually show up in the Sony select app not Google Play. For some reason they are not showing up there on my 2019 Sony tv either, but if you go home and scroll down to the Sony select channel, they all appear there and can be installed. Hope this helps.

Thanks so much for your reply. I can definitely see TVNZ on Demand thanks to your instructions but as a result of finding this app I’ve discovered that my TV thinks I’m not based in NZ and won’t allow me to use the app. I still don’t see Neon but I’ve obviously got another problem which I’ll try to resolve outside of this topic. Thanks again.

You need to search for 'NEON NZ'. I have it on my 2016 Sony Android TV (X8500D)

Yes found it thanks but just like TVNZ on Demand it won't allow me to use it...."Item is not available in your Country" so I need to take that up elsewhere I think.

Might need to set the country to NZ or is there a VPN set up?

I did a complete factory reset of my TV.  This time around when trying to install Neon NZ I'm no longer seeing the text 'This app is not available in your country' but I now get a description of the application including screen shots of the app but I have no means of installing the app.  There is no install button appearing at all.  The same is happening with TVNZ on Demand app.  I'm able to install other apps no problem.  I've also contacted Sony NZ Support, waiting on their feedback.

Have no problem with Neon or TVNZ on Demand on our 2018 Sony AF8.  Neither were available when we first got the the TV.  Became available sometime in the first year.  But only discovered that about 3 weeks before our free year of Neon ended 😒.  Chromecast also now works flawlessly.

I installed NEON on my 2019 Sony TV recently.  I haven't tried using it yet as I've only just cancelled my Sky subscription and I'm waiting until that actually cuts off before starting to pay for NEON content that I'm already getting on Sky...  but no problems installing the app.

I installed it recently on my 2019 Sony A8G... I used it a couple of days ago with no problems.

The only issues I can find with it are the lack of decent sound support and that it logs me out quite often... which is an annoyance with log strong passwords.
