Had a couple of emails from SkyTV... but not noticed any changes yet...

Message was:

Hi there!

We're trialling some new software aimed to help improve our customers' viewing experience. You’ve been chosen to try it out first and tell us what you think, but we notice you haven't had a chance to sign up yet.

What will happen?

First, your MY SKY will receive a software upgrade; this happens over the satellite so you won't need to do a thing.

What do I need to do?

  • Complete a short survey – you can find the link below
  • Spend some time using your MY SKY for a few days once the upgrade takes place
  • Complete the second survey – we will send you the link a couple of days after the update and it should take no more than 10 minutes to complete.

What do I get?

The privilege of being one of the first MY SKY customers in the country to experience the new software!

[update]

From the survey - it looks like you have to agree to the update in the survey *before* the update arrives. Presumably there's another survey afterwards.

Oh boy. Lets hope they don't make it any worse than it currently is. The lag that the current mysky has when navigating around the menus is ridiculous. Any more and it will be unusable!

k14 i had the same thing recently when the lag was terrible when navigating the menus.  In my case it due to the hard drive failing.

Doesnt the MYsky have a button combo forced firmware download , I wonder if others could manually force a firmware update?

Would only work if the update was avalible to all.

This is a test by the looks of it, so presumably only push it to those who they get to sign up to the test.

i was going to say i hope it doesn't lag any more, because it's very slow going at the moment. press a button, go and make a cup of tea. if you press it again while making your cup of tea it will overshoot. after you've finished the tea.

You surely don't expect them to start catching up to Freeview 😂

Sounds like it doesn't have any new features from Wingbats post.

Not sure if you have one of the new boxes or an old one. My old Mysky was also terrible with the new software update. I got Sky to come and replace it with a new box, and that has been so much better than the old one...

Do you get a discount on your next months sub for assisting them with their business?

I recall their spokesperson made an announcement about this feature a while back, but whenver that was, I think they forgot they said that! tongue-out

I've so far seen no on-screen message about receiving a S/W update nor noticed any differences...

Cards in the decoders are set for different settings so that a customer card won't do what a staff card won't do and a staff card won't do what a commercial card would do. makes no difference if you swap cards with your mate the decoder looks for the card its been assigned and goes from there.

This was in Sky's 2017 AGM slides:

Very interesting.
