Hi there

I noticed today sky seem to be selling fanpass for mobile phone (only) for a pretty impressive 16.99 a month. May be a trial or softlaunch? I haven't tried yet but will - thought others would be interested... I can't post the link, but it is just on the 'get a pass' page

Hmm. What I like is they are doing something. I have Sky so of no interest to me, but what about getting cheap Fanpass, and chromecasting or airplaying does that work? Cheap plus big screen. Or will a phone type "cast" be low res on a telly?

On their site got the following reply on if casting

The mobile pass is for access on mobile phones only, and will work on any supported mobile phone for Fan Pass. As of right now we are awaiting further information regarding the option to cast or not with this pass. For more information regarding that inquiry please send an email to support@fanpass.co.nz, and we can provide you with that information once we get more information.

Why can't the just answer the question with a 'yes' or 'no', they sound like a politician. Hint Sky: If you offer Chrome cast support on this plain, I'd sign up today.

I _really_ don't like Sky, and I have been without them for 5 years or so now...

However, I would swallow my pride and pay $16.99/month for Fanpass if it was HD (720P ok even, but has to be good solid 720P), if it included Sky Sport 1-4, ESPN and the pop-ups where they frequently put extended live event (V8 weekends, etc etc).

However, $16.99 for such a complete Sports package without making me buy a satellite subscription as well? I don't see it happening.

Prove me wrong Sky - I have my CC waiting...

Cheers - N

Here's the first fish-hook :

"As a convenience, the subscription package is set for automatic renewal from sign up date based on your selected duration. If you would like to cancel, you may contact customer support at support@fanpass.co.nz."

And this::

"the content available on your Selected FAN PASS may not include some of the content included on the equivalent television channel(s), which we "black out" due to classification or rights issues. Where we are not able to provide certain content on a live streaming channel, we will black out that content. We also will black out content classified R18 during the day in order to comply with the Broadcasting Standards Authority's Pay TV Code. While we will try to minimise the black outs on FAN PASS, the number and length of such black outs will vary from time to time;"

But honestly, those are the worst things I found and for $17/month, if it can be put on a big screen, this is an absolute cracker of a bargain.

Cheers - N

Sounded like they didn’t really know, I would sign up if 17 per month though and could cast to tv

thats right. It was there most of yesterday.

I'd be surprised if they let a mobile only subscription chromecast, but I still like the idea of a mobile sub.

Or some other sensible price for a monthly sub: $99 a month isn't going to get them anywhere, so hopefully they do something about that soon.
