Watching a bit of Neon on the bus home from work and I cannot get a full-screen on my iPhone X

I get a full screen when in menus, but as soon as the movie starts - letterboxed, top, bottom, both sides. No way to expand the view.

I have a 5.8" screen and am getting to use around 4.5" of it...very frustrating.

probably caused by the aspect ratio on the iphone x being a bit weird?

@sidefx other video works fine on iPhone X and is zoomable to fit full screen if you want.

Poor coding of Neon app I'd say.

Probably yeah; but most (all?) iphones before now have been standard aspect ratio right? So there's not been much need for it before iphone x? Zoom to fit presumably requires an effort on the app developers to support.

Submit a bug report to Neon? (are there even channels to do that?)

Yeah, based on all of the other video apps I’ve used to date, it just feels half-cooked.

Surely it can’t be hard to add a stretch button.
Being letterboxed top and bottom as well as sides, it feels like a coding error as opposed to an issue with the aspect ratio of the phone screen.

Upon release of the X I vaguely remember tech reviewers mentioning that due to the aspect ratio only a handful of apps supported it at the time and other app developers would need to update to support this. Being Neon I doubt they care much for this unless more people complain.

I think you're right - they won't much care as customer service isn't big on the priority list.

The Sky Go app is exactly the same...letterboxed top, bottom and sides. Bloody annoying.

@Dial111 @handsomedan they'll care about it pretty soon when Apple pulls the app from the store.  They've deemed that all new apps submitted to the store must adhere to iPhone X design standards.  Won't be long until they do the same to existing apps.

Either way, it's not like it's hard.  They provide all the tools and guidance to get this stuff working.

I believe there is a fix in the next version of the app. It would have been released quite a while ago except there are other new features in the release as well which have taken a while to get right.

So keep your eyes open for an update soon.
