https://www.stuff.co.nz/business/industries/104012339/spark-to-sell-sky-tvs-fan-pass-with-more-sports-deals-on-the-table

Quite murky waters. Sky is close to Vodafone. Sky is losing RWC to Spark/TVNZ. Lots of competition for eyeballs, including Sky's Vodafone TV. Spark seems to be talking to Sky, in fact the article implies its a done deal. Its only reselling Fanpass, but possible RWC benefits.

Hard to assess how this will affect Sky, sport, and SVOD going forward

Sky and vodafone were close but not as close as they once were.

Yep, and despite what many say, Sky doesnt compete with SVOD. Sky wants subscriber revenue and sport is their crown jewel. They dont care if that revenue comes from a Sky subscription or via Voda or via Fanpass, or via any partner. Spark has shown more diversity than Voda. Lightbox, now movies, RWC, maybe EPL, maybe selling Fanpass. Sky and Spark might work well together by each adding value to the other. That may hurt Voda as it might be cost effective if you have Sky to also have Spark, and vice versa.

Almost like how you used to be able to get Sky on your Telecom (Spark) bill and pay for it that way? I know they stopped doing it, then were talking about doing it again sometime in 2012 (from memory) but the talks never amounted to anything, then Spark setup Lightbox etc.

Yes, that was a small saving, maybe $5 from memory. I think the issue is sport not Lightbox. Should anything come from this move, and it does appear to be a done deal, I guess you can buy Fanpass on the Spark bill, a but cheaper. Maybe Sky as well, a bit cheaper. And the article points towards sport viewing benefits.

So it appears Spark is going to resell Sky's Fanpass Service, they had a webpage up long enough for Google to cache before taking it down but in short: $30 a month

It'll be interesting to see when Sky launch their 'App on an Apple TV' service later in the year that Spark drops in as a reseller for that too. Anyone got a date on when their IPTV service will open?

I think he dod about a year, that was a few months ago, in the article where Fellet was suggesting an app. So must be 2018. Sky app that includes Lightbox? Lightbox app that includes Fanpass?
