We watched 'I, Tonya' for our free movie (we enjoyed it because it was different, plus we enjoyed the actors)

It wasn't exactly free, because I notice I paid a $1 fee on my Credit Card, for what I assume was the HD Content. Not sure, why in this day and age, you have to pay extra for HD.

My email said:

Movie rented: I, Tonya
Cost: $ 0.00
Voucher: -

Nevertheless, I look forward to more (and recent) movie releases.

It's ok, the $1 is an authorisation charge to ensure the card is valid. It'll be refunded. The movie is still free :)

thats what gets me , why do you need to know if the card is valid if it is a free movie and nothing will be charged. i mean i use a debit card so even if it is valid there is no money on it untill i want to pay something.  i know someone will tell me a perfectly good reason but i still dont like it .

Common sense is not as common as you think.

Thank you George.

Even though I have taken up the offer of a free movie, we have chosen a movie for this long weekend. I wish Lightbox well.

PS. Any chance of adding Lightbox to play on an Amazon Fire TV, because I have some non smart TV's.

Amazon Fire is something we'll investigate; you're not the first to ask. The numbers are a bit of an unknown in NZ at the moment, which makes business casing it a bit hard...!

I wish Lightbox all the best too, because I think we need it to be successful  for competition. I wasn't aware of the free first movie either so will look into that.

Because emails/names/addresses are easy to make up to keep getting access to things, but working credit cards aren't?

It's a way to tie a person's details which could be fake, to something that isn't fake, thus (helping to) prove the person is actually real.

If you can think of a better way to prove I really exist, without me having to mail in forms, or appear in person, that also a large majority of the Internet population have access to, you'd be set.  Someone giving you a CC has done the hard work of already proving you are who you say you are, Lightbox etc just leverage that work so they don't have to do it themselves.

Real Me. That is what I thought the whole reason for Real Me was for.

How many people have signed up to RealMe? 2% of the population? :)

But yes, if we legit did all have RealMe ID's I can imagine this would replace CC's a valid "I am who I say I am" method.

They know who you are, the Light Box account has to be linked to a Spark account for free movie.

So I don’t get why have to have $1 charge for free movie to prove who you are.

To prove you have a working credit card, yep.
