I quit Neon again giving reason no DD5.1

Just received email offering TV and Movies for 2 months at 11.99.

Says that at moment packages still bundled, but will be doing TV in future for $11.99, and include movies for current price of around $20.

The price wasn’t the issue for me, it was the no DD5.1

Counterpart is probably alright without DD, but Westworld would’ve greatly benefited, espically in a bull charging scene, and Game of Thrones definitely needs it.

A good move by Sky. We get Neon free with Vodafone but when my 1 year free expires I'll be tempted to continue @ $12 a month.

I'd also be interested if they offered HD + 5.1 Audio. I'm not paying $$ for shows like Westworld etc in Stereo

Looks like its a price on par with Lightbox (Lightbox $13/mth all HD vs Neon's SD/HD mix at $12/mth).

Surprised it doesnt reflect the premium for HBO content compared to other libraries.

Neither Lightbox nor Neon with 5.1?  Wonder why not?

FYI: The new $11.99 TV package seems to be available now for new signups or for current customers to switch to.

Seems like a good move. I hope they pump some money into making a better interface + subtitles

What they need is an integrated app that works, much like the Foxtel Now app. You can choose what packages you want, and the single app works for Live TV and catch up, Chromecast is supported. At the moment, you've got Sky Go (if you are a STB subscriber) and Fan Pass and Neon if you aren't.

I've had Neon for a reasonable amount of time now but will be cancelling it soon. Was using the Xbox 360 app but they have discontinued that now, so brought a Chromecast Ultra but the audio plays back in mono. It sounds terrible and makes it hard to hear the dialogue. It also only plays back only on the centre speaker when enabling Dolby Pro Logic IIx on the home theatre system because it is in mono. I would use Neon on my PC but they use Flash Player for some reason which seems to have no GPU acceleration and is unwatchable due to the computer only having a low powered AMD A4-5000 CPU.

If anybody from Neon support is reading these comments I'd certainly appreciate the mono audio issue on the Chromecast be looked into, I'm not the only person experiencing this issue I know that much. Certainly nothing wrong with the picture quality of Neon through the Chromecast, just the audio.

I have spoken to Neon support about the mono audio on the Chromecast, I asked them to pass the message onto the tech team as I got the impression they didn't know what I was talking about.

Anyone here tried Neon on an Android TV or FireTV device?

I just read on Stuff today about the TV only package and it got me interested, so thought I'd check here for the current state of DD 5.1 and Neon, since I can't find a single mention of it on the Neon website..

Oh well, seems nothing has changed.

I'll check again next year before Game of Thrones comes out.

Introducing Dolby Digital 5.1 involves substantial change to the way the content is prepared and packaged across multiple platforms including NEON. It is being discussed internally.

Regarding mono audio, that was a problem on SD content only and only on selected big screen devices. HD content (like Game of Thrones, Westworld etc) was never affected.

Well, given there are philistines that are ok with using the TV's built-in speakers, your standards are still higher than some!

But, seriously, I too am reluctant to hand over cash every month for Neon to only be provided with sound that is significantly inferior to that provided by Sky's satellite service - for some people (me included), decent sound is a key aspect of the viewing experience.

Two recent shows that demonstrate this are Sharp Objects and West World. The sound design in Sharp Objects in particular was quite spectacular, I reckon, and contributed to what made this series stand out from the rest of recent releases. Watching that in a non-discrete audio format would have been a big loss.

I get that it's a big amount of work to release all content in 5.1, but I would have thought that a line could be drawn in the sand so as to release new content going forward with it - surely the service, apps etc could be configured to support the current audio standards while also provide for 5.1 for newer content?

Similarly, it's disappointing that Lightbox isn't providing 5.1 - didn't they have to go through a whole palaver a couple of years back to re-code all their content? I'd have hoped it could have been sorted then.

My real beef with Neon is tha the iOS mobile app still doesn't scale up to fill the screen on an iPhone X.

Hate to think what all the owners of those lovely big-screened iPhone XsMax's will be feeling...it's not letterboxed - it's postage-stamped. shown in a small rectangle in the middle of the screen...unwatchable.
