I was watching Looper (Movies greats) early hours of the mourning, decided 2.30am to hit sack and watch last hour another day, it’s and oldie, but I couldn’t remember who the rain maker was.

Hit record and message comes up “This program cannot be recorded”

Is this new rubbish from Sky or is it a case of something gone wrong, tested other channels and hit record and they started recording fine.

Loaded up Sky TV guide on IPad, hit remote record, request sent through successfully, check Sky Box and record Light is lit up and shows recording in planner. Will find out when go to watch rest of it, if it’s ok.

Hopefully it was an error of some sought, because if I can’t record movies to watch at own convince what is the point?

I tried on second decoder, same thing so not a decoder error.

Thank you for reply, it looks like non decoder method of setting up a recording got past the recording block, just checked out first 5 minutes and it is fine.

Looks like that program is not being repeated in next 4 weeks so was no opportunity to reschedule.

I find it strange that work behind the scenes would block a recording, when it's being recorded to hard drive in persons home, not a server at Sky HQ.

At least it sounds like it's not the beginning of some programs being not record-able,  if Sky on Demand was same quality as broadcast it wouldn't be a problem.

At least they don't sell toasters, when doing work behind the scenes the toaster pop up function may be disabled. :)

Devices don’t play well when a codec suddenly changes mid-playback. (MPEG2 to MPEG4)

I thought all HD channels were already MPEG4, it's the SD channels being changed over.

It was movies greats HD.

Know it will be a rare thing to happen, that's the main thing. Bad luck timing on my part. Do shift work so have weird hours.

Sky has reserved the right to stop you recording certain programmes for a long time... does anybody read T's & C's?

Until they enact it, it doesn’t matter. This is the first time have come across them enacting it.
It was techniqual reasons so sounds like not becoming common practice.

I remember them blocking a royal wedding a while ago... I didn't care at all.

But at the request of the main broadcaster / product house, things can be blocked.

It pays to remember that you don't own the content on your MySKy box, you simply lease it.

There are other people in house that cannot use Netflix, they rely on Sky Decoder for doing Freeview recording, if it was just me Sky would be gone.

The other choice is a Freeview recorder, just look at all the things that have come out wrong with the new one in other thread, I believe the Sky one is the best recorder as long as they don’t start blocking recordings regularly.

Movies was an additional $15 for three months, so as I watch a lot of movies it was value for me.
Will probably pay the $10x2 months for SoHo for 6 weeks of game of thrones. Think they’ll be 1.5 hour long episodes.

I don’t have to pay for the record function on the mysky, so it brings it closer to the Sky deals thread, if I was paying that then price would be getting prohibitive even for being best way to record Freeview.
