Anyone know of any deals or ways to get a discount for sky sport now. The thing that really guts me is I stopped it over Christmas and when I resigned I did it as an in app purchase in the app on my Ipad without thinking and then panicked it would be more expensive - But no, same price. So that means they are happy to give Apple 30% of the fee I've paid but won't give me a discount. Everything I can find says Apple takes 30% on all in App purchases and subscriptions. It just seems to be the way of business today - They could sell it to more end users at a discount and sell far more but they'd rather give the money to Apple, or bundle it with broadband deals with Trustpower which I'm guessing means they are giving trustpower big discounts for the promise of bulk customers. Why can't they just sell it to end users at an honest price that is actually good value.

Paying $50 a month to watch nothing but rugby is pretty poor value for me but I suck it up and do it. I'm sure if it was $29.99 per month they'd get 3 times the subscribers and be better off.

Rant over.

There are some. Not sure the current ones. I’m still on a deal for $39 for the entire summer, ie a one off payment I made in Nov.

Just keep an eye out.

Also buy direct off sky not through Apple, unsure if the 30% is added.

no, it’s not added and that’s my point. They are happy to take a 30% hit from Apple permanently but rarely discount to the user.

At a guess... I bet Apple don't allow you to sell at two different price points when through Apple store and not. They'd want to ensure people use the Apple store as much as possible.

They do, but that is why places like amazon etc don’t allow purchasing int he app any more, cos they didn’t want to take the hit.

You won’t get specials while purchasing through Apple. Which is why I said to pay money, do it direct from sky via browser. Your account will work on Apple once you’ve signed in. This is how I did the purchase for my Apple TV. It’s only if you want the “convenience” on buying on your device.

Thats my whole point thought - I was rushing a subscription to watch the opening super rugby match (The only thing I watch on Sky) and I did it through the App on Ipad - Had a momentary panic that I'd be paying more but I wasn't. This means Sky are actually Happy to be giving 30% away - When I made contact to suggest if they had any discounts on offer I'd stop the Apple subscription and go direct and the response was "We have no discount codes at present".

So I figure screw them - They can keep giving Apple 30% of their profits until they feel like recognising the difference and offering something back to the customer.

I suspect half the problem is the person I was "chatting" to has zero authority and zero tools in front of them - Obviously they are sometimes made aware of deals and if there is no deal then the flow chart says no.

I cannot understand the way Sky do business - They seem to constantly fly in the face of their own loyal customers. Had a mate who'd been with them for over 20 years and he had to ring and suggest maybe he diserved some of the specials that were on offer to new clients - About a week later he got a phone call offering him an upgrade to a My Sky unit for free - The guy has the complete sports and movies package (Not sure if he has Soho) and pays for a second decoder for his bedroom (When he could just wire the signal down and remote back) and still they treat him like a liability.

I'm sure if they started becoming more end user focussed rather than always looking for the next supplier wholesale bundling option it would pay dividends for them in new customers - If we could actually pay for what we want (which Sky Sport now is the beginning of but its still a premium) at a reasonable price they'd have a hell of a lot more people paying for it alongside Netflix etc.
