Hi

 

Over the last month or so we have been getting lots of "signal lost due to Atmospheric conditions" screens on our Mysky but if we switch our Samsung TV to satellite Freeview using the built in receiver it runs perfectly using all the same cabling satellite  dish etc.

 

Normally our Sky runs good as gold 

 

couple of questions 

 

Does Mysky need a better signal strength than Freeview causing the problem ( i.e. could it be our dish has moved )

 

or could it be a problem with our Mysky box 

 

Grateful for any advice

Sky Transponders use DVB -S2 which is more  suspectable to atmospheric issues as they use 8PSK mode

The Sky DVB-S2 multiplexes will always need a better signal than the Freeview DVB-S ones, so they will see any problems first.

 

How old is your dish?  They can drift out of alignment with the satellite over time.  And the LNBs can die gradually with age also.  A lot of Sky dishes are fitted with dual LNBs, so if yours is (if it has two aerial cables feeding into the house), try the other LNB to see if it is better.  And also check the line of sight from the disk to the satellite - has a tree grown up in the way?  Or a neighbour built a multi-story building intruding on the line of sight?

Ring Sky, they'll sort it.

 

Happened to me a couple times, over 15 year time period  or so. They replaced LNB free of charge, and it worked perfectly after that.

 

So if no new trees etc and dish hasn't gone out of alignment then likely to be that, they don't last for ever.

If a tree or building was in the way , you’d have permanent ‘rain fade’ :-)
Most likely the skew needs adjusting , ring Sky.
( i had an old customer with a similar issue recently, she called Sky & the guy wouldn’t get on the roof unless she supplied a scaffold)

Are you splitting the signal when it comes into the house? 
If you are, you are introducing at least a 3.5dB loss already on the cable.
