Very poor coverage from sky, with only 6 linear channels. Already missing quite a few events and it’s only the first day.

Very poor when compared to channel 7 in aus and the bbc which have all events streamed.

The host nation always has the perk of needing to supply everything to all I believe. And I think free too (kind of kickback from hosting)

Was always going to be a fight once sky got it back. It reads as if they are the partner/sponsor so focus on our guys. Fair enough, but seems other sports are backburner once again.

Not sure we've ever been opened up to every channel?

Actually probably mixing myself up with Olympic broadcasting co who write those sorts of rules

BBC won host rights. So they're the ones likely dictating. Now to dig out what that entails.

Obviously there's more platforms they have to offer,. multiple channels and iPlayer. 7 is proof it all has bundle capabilities at least

/Edit.. actually, is it the number or whats showing that seems short?

A range of extra services will also be provided, including a 24/7 Games Channel featuring the best of each day’s action, and a multi-channel service consisting of six uninterrupted feeds.

There are 7 24x7 CWG feed channels running on Asiasat 5 at the moment, I expect Sky is simply using that feed.

I just added CBC Canada's 6 Free CWG channels, to my kiwitv2.m3u playlist they work fine via Kodi

We watched some of the Sky coverage last night. The picture quality was poor and the sound quality at times awful.

We know someone competing in the swimming and I think we've more chance of seeing them on the BBC coverage than Sky.

We're over in the UK at present so using iPlayer extensively. Only watched the Rugby 7s at present and the coverage has been excellent. Each sport effectively has a dedicated stream for their session, and everything is immediately available on-demand.

There have been some technical issues on their side with the occasional break in transmission, but video / audio quality has been generally good. As it is only a 720p stream we've got some pixelation during fast action, but overall excellent.

Ive watched a little bit of the games through Sky Sport Now.

Normally I would agree the quality of SSN is massively sub par. However from what I've been watching its been.... OK. 1080p but they still need to up the bitstream rate. So OK not stunning.  Better than recent rugby games to be fair.  Most noticeable when there is large blocks of solid colour. For example; currently watching mens hockey of NZL v PAK and the blue pitch has horrible patches of blockiness. Otherwise OK - certainly watchable.

I've watched some on 7 from AU and BBC from the UK, the 'problem' is they obviously focus heavily on their athletes. I found it a tougher watch than SKY , who I'm no fan of because of that, but think they've done a decent job. I saw one of our ex White Ferns bemoaning the fact they couldn't watch the AU v India 20/20 match, and while I can sympathise with that to some degree, I guess they can't cover everything.

I do like the way they have pop-up letting you know you a NZ'er is about to take part in some event on another channel, I have frequently been watching something and will flick over, watch the even and go back to where I was.

This is a cop out, it’s 2022 - many other broadcasters around the commonwealth are streaming everything - sky have the capability they just can’t be bothered.

Potentially un-popular opinion, are the Commonwealth Games still relevant ?

Yes, it's great and well done to the athletes that have won Gold, Silver and Bronze but with NZ and it's tall poppy problem, what happens when say at the World Champs the same athletes don't podium, as you will then have opponents from non commonwealth countries?

With nearly all sports these days having yearly world championships are the Commonwealth Games and Olympics still as relevant as they once were ?

Tell me I'm wrong.

You’re not wrong IMHO. It’s just not a top level competition due to the restricted list of participating nations.

Olympics. World Championships. Daylight. Commonwealth Games.

Maybe I’m just grumpy because I had to sit through 10 minutes of CG before the news got to actual news. Like the economy, Ukraine, health and so on.
