My New Sky STB is on HDMI 1 but quite often when I switch on the TV is has reverted to HDMI 2 which is connected to the DVD.

It is easy to switch back but can someone tell the non-technical person what might be causing this and how I can fix it please?

Consumer Electronics Control (CEC) is a feature of HDMI designed to control HDMI connected devices. When you turn the TV on the DVD player apears to be setup to take the power on command from the TV and turn on, this then changes the HDMI input on the TV to that of the DVD player

Turn it off on the DVD player as a start.

Thanks. My technical knowledge is lacking. Can you please explain how I bring up CEC to make the change that you suggest please.?

Sorry to be blunt but find the manual for your DVD player and look for it in there or go through the setting menu to find it.

Or just turn it off on the TV if you don't need it.

No one can help more than that, as you haven't provided the details.

What sort of TV do you have?

On Sonys the feature you are looking for is "control for HDMI devices" or similar wording.

What this feature does is turn on connected HDMI devices when you switch on the TV (e.g. home theater / sound systems etc).

My devices are getting a bit old (like me) and that may be the problem. I notice that my TV is hard to turn off now using the remote.

TV is a Panasonic TH-32E400Z. (32inch is required due to space) and my DVD Recorder (which I don't use) is a Sony RDR-HX750/HX950.

I guess the answer will be to upgrade.?

Question:  Which remote control do you use to switch the TV on/off?  Panasonic?  Sky?  Sony?

What HDMI setting was it on when switched off?

I've found if I use the Sky controller, it switches on the TV, and then switches to HDMI1 automatically.

With a PS5, if I start it with a controller, it switches on the TV and then switches to HDMI2 automatically.

If I switch on with the TV remote, and it's on (e.g. HDMI2) then it powers on the PS5 attached there.

I use the Panasonic remote to switch the TV on/off and leave the Sky STB on all the time. If I switch the sky STB

box off it leaves power to the TV on but naturally no picture.

From the appropriate manual: https://www.manualslib.com/manual/1441205/Panasonic-Viera-Th-32e400z.html?page=15&term=hdmi&selected=12#manual

Seems to be under:
- MENU
- Setup
- Link Settings

Setup[Link Settings]

[CEC]
When set to [On], the TV will automatically switch to the appropriate HDMI input
whenever an HDMI connected equipment is initially turned on and playmode is selected.
[Off] / [On]

[Power off Link]
When set to [On], all HDMI connected equipment willbe turned off automatically by turning off the TV.
[Off] / [On]
– A Panasonic DVD Recorder will not turn off if it is still in the Rec mode.
– The TV remains on even if all the HDMI connected equipment are turned off.

Try experimenting with these settings.
Switch CEC off and see if it stops it jumping to HDMI2.
