Just saw this

https://help.sky.co.nz/s/article/Sky-Go-is-changing

"You’ll still be able to watch Sky Go on up to two devices (in addition to watching on your Sky Box or Sky Pod) but you’ll no longer be able to stream the same channel simultaneously on those devices. "

Interesting, is this saying there will be some block on the skybox that says sorry you can’t watch this channel as it is being streamed on sky go? And vice versa?

I can see the main thing they are trying to block is everyone watching the “big game” on all devices.

Also I wonder what happens for multi room

I think it means 2 people watching on the same skygo account can't watch the same thing at the same time. They are clearly doing this to prevent accounts being shared. But the wording on the page makes it try to look as if they are adding a function that benefits the subscriber.

If anyone complains they will say Sky Go is free as part of your subscription, and they can change it whenever they like... blah blah blah!!

They are trying to sneak this major change in without people noticing. There are a number of overseas sites and illegal iptv providers to blame here.

When is the next allblacks game? that will be when it get noticed.

Razer just announced the team, first game next weekend. I think the timing is intentional.

Yeah I thought this would be the case, but the wording doesn’t sound like that. Will need interesting to see how it works.

Does anyone know of a 'virtual tuner' solution we can use to work around this nonsense?

IIRC, there is some software out there which can make normal TV tuners show up on the network like a HDHomeRun, so hopefully there is something for IPTV that can be made to work with SkyGo.

Only a marketing department can remove functionality while calling it "great news", an "improvement" and "even more value"!

I wonder if they are including the sky box as that same channel as the app.

Time will tell.

I think that's exactly what they mean.

It can't be as Sky will have no way to know what is being watched on the Sky box.

Spark Max Fibre using Mikrotik CCR1009-8G-1S-1S+, CRS125-24G-1S, Unifi UAP, U6-Pro, UAP-AC-M-Pro, Apple TV 4K (2022), Apple TV 4K (2017), iPad Air 1st gen, iPad Air 4th gen, iPhone 13, SkyNZ3151 (the white box). If it doesn't move then it's data cabled.

Username does not check out 😜

Your Sky Box is connected to your account.
Sky Go is connected to your account.
Your new Sky Box is connected to the internet.

I would be very surprised if Sky were NOT tracking what people are watching on the box.
At a minimum what channel is currently being viewed.

And by adding 'user profiles' to Sky Go they are getting even more granularity on it there.

That being said, I'm pretty sure it would allow watching the same channel on the "Main Box" and one device "on the go".

The marketing spin on it makes me nauseous though.  Add the feature/limitation, fine - but don't try and tell us its for our benefit.

The new sky box still uses cable for its channels doesn't it? I doubt they'd be able to monitor that/ if so they wouldn't restrict others from watching that same channel anyway if on SkyGo.

Actually of course they'd be able to monitor what channel is being watched, they wouldn't restrict SkyGo users though from watching that same channel though seeing as that is the point of the app.
