Suddenly, some of the TV channels are displaying captions and I am not having much success turning it off. It is switched off under "Captions" Display.

I don't want to spend the next week or so trying to get help from Sky and would appreciate any suggestions. One lot of advice I read tells me to "Press setup on remote" but my remote does not have this facility. It is very confusing.

Is it the new (White) skybox or an older (Black) one?

Have you tried resetting it ? (eg Unplug from the mains for 30 seconds or so.)

It is the new White box. I tried the reset but to no avail. Still getting the captions. It's not a biggy but annoying. I hope it is not something SKY has introduced without telling us.

I have had a great run with the new box so don't want to upset things.

Further investigation suggests what I am getting may be "Voice Over" rather than "Captions". It doesn't help though. I can now see why there is so much frustration with SKY.

I found this online?

To turn off voice over on a Sky box in New Zealand, you can use the Voice button on your remote and say "Voice Guidance off". You can also use the remote buttons to turn off Audio Description.    Using the Voice button

  1. Press and hold the Voice button on your Sky remote
  2. Say "Voice Guidance off"

Using the remote buttons

  1. Press the ? (question mark) button on your Sky Q remote
  2. Press Select to toggle Audio Description off
  3. Press Dismiss to close the menu

You can also turn off Closed Caption on a Sky box by going to Setup, then Audio & Subtitles, then Language. From there, you can select Off to disable Closed Caption.

Thanks for your suggestions. The remote it refers to is the UK SKY remote. The other suggestions didn't work either but it was worth a try. It is very difficult to get any help from SKY. What a pity they don't have any competition.
